The kirakira thing isn't just about Shuuji, I don't think - Machu clearly wants to be special, to escape her mundane life. She feels like that's being threatened by Nyaan, who is More Special than her. She's just sort of personified that onto Shuuji. (Though to be clear she's also obviously attracted to Shuuji.)

But I think the message is also that her mundanity might be her strength because it makes her more human than Shuji and less violent in an MS like Nyaan.
