Nyaan being the psycho wasn't on my bingo list.

Honestly I think it makes sense.

She's been so beaten down by her refugee status and by people judging her or law enforcement accosting her, that the first time she finally feels powerful in life it goes to her head and she goes on a Newtype Power High.

Absolutely, what interests me is that she seems to have controlled a Gundam before, but we didn't know that so far

There is a bit on her character introduction from gundaminfo site. Nyann escaped from her colony by mobile suit before being rescued by passing ship.

Ah that's interesting, I expect them to go into that the next few episodes

I dunno about controlling a Gundam, but she definitely seems aware of her tendency to go on power trips.

Also voiced by Ishikawa Yui. Now Nyann is officially in the club.

Character with traumatic back story voiced by Isikawa Yui

That's a good point.

I was laughing at how way in over her head she was, thinking it'd be easy and getting uber jumped while Shuji is high from huffing spray paint. Only for the 2 war vets to realize that even in space there wasn't enough space to run away from an unhinged Panther.

I thought she was going to pull a [Macross Frontier]Sheryl Nome and then she proves she's a true aggressive Newtype.

What a tragic pair. They were trying to show that skill and experience matters more than the hardware you're flying, then lost to an untrained child in a Gundam.

Nyaan got a taste of the dark side. If this was Star Wars, her fall would be inevitable.

But since this isn't Star Wars YOU GO, GIRL!

Nah fr this must be like how Anakin felt the first time he force choked someone lmao

Yui Ishikawa as Nyaan saying "This is freedom" then proceeds to kill her enemy. 10/10 episode

Did she actually kills the pilot?

Did shuji killed another one as well, considering explosions?

I wonder if there's some kind of penalty if the match ends up with someone died. It should have the penalty, right? idk how to make sense of clan battle in-universe if there's no prevention of life loss in its match

The vibe I’m getting is that killing in Clan Battle isn’t illegal as much as it is frowned upon. Pretty much everyone walks into an MS expecting anything up to actual death because there are no safety measures involved, unlike the Gundam Fight from G Gundam or the MS duels from G-Witch

45

u/AkhasicRay May 06 '25

There’s no penalty, they even mention a few times that these things happen. Clan Battles are basically illegal underground (outer space?) free for all battles where essentially anything goes. Kill your opponents? Well it could maybe hurt your chances of getting future opponents but it seems like as far as the rules go (what little there are) a win is a win

32

u/[deleted] May 06 '25

In ep3 they said there were no rules besides you win if you destroy your opponent's MS's heads, pretty much implying killing is allowed.

Which confuses me this episode, since Shuji only cut off the Dom’s head but it exploded anyway. So even the head isn’t safe!?

Yeah I was surprised at this scene. Feels like a clean cut, but somehow it also blew up the suit.

u/Tora-shinai May 07 '25

01 Gundam as well in episode 2.

3

u/Financial-March-3158 May 10 '25

I feel like this is the first time we saw it being cut by beam saber which might cause the explosion. Before that, it was always the axe that chop off the head.

1

u/Mathmango May 07 '25

Could be because they're older suits. Or it looks cool

6

u/BasroilII May 07 '25

Did she actually kills the pilot?

Her saber went right through the cockpit.

As for Shuji's his head apparently thought it was the bridge of a federation battleship. Hit it and the entire mech exploded. In spite of decapitations rarely being that severe with most MS.

Im thinking the same thing. this is just a muck battle for money. costing the lives...last two episodes I feel a bit depressed to watch...

6

u/BosuW May 06 '25

For now I feel like Machu doesn't want to kill, but she would if she had to. Shuji doesn't care. And Nyaan... "Well y'know for me, the action is the juice."

3

u/TeaAndLifting May 06 '25

Yes to both.

There doesn't seem to be any penalties though. It appears to be 'accepted risk'

Went from :3 to >:3 real quick

It makes perfect sense actually - an oppressed, cynic refugee who has a ton of pent up rage inside her, and now she has an outlet in the form of bloody violence. A story as old as the universe itself.
