As always, 5500 BDs average being the Kirara line does wonders. No Kirara anime that sold below that number has ever gotten a new season*. On the other hand, getting above that number magically guarantees a new season.
Thankfully, Gochiusa S3 had around 7100 BDs sold, so S4 was coming sooner or later.
*Only Yuru Camp has broken that Kirara line so far, S3 had 3800 BDs average sold and still got S4. But I'd assume the massive tourism revenue streams make up for that deficit.

Absolutely. It's one of the biggest cashcows for Houbunsha. It's almost their idol anime (ironically over their actual idol anime) practically speaking, considering how much songs they pump out for this series.
It's 100% one of their pillars of popular series together with Yuru Camp and Bocchi the Rock!.
I'm surprised how long it took for S4 to get announced honestly. I thought the chance was already gone, because it broke the Kirara line, but taking this long is pretty unusual.

I mean, Fruit Tart genuinely is just treated like any other slice of life by Houbunsha and all character songs are locked away behind BD bonus CDs.
Even Hidamari Sketch had character songs available as singles lol.
Idol x Idol is Comic Fuz, which is still Houbunsha, so it is certainly possible (way better track record than Ichijinsha for example).
Unfortunately, between the non-Kirara Houbunsha adaptations, the track record is pretty shit and there's exactly 6 adaptations to my knowledge ever and 5 of them are from the original "Manga Time" (non-Kirara which yes does exist) and only 4 of them are actually full seasons. Compare this to the whopping 50 individual Kirara titles (and many of them have multiple seasons and have had a full season worth of content each year since 2007).
Ooya-san wa Shishunki! (2016), Re-Kan! (2015), Love Lab (2014), Komori-san wa Kotowarenai! (2015), Tsuma, Shougakusei ni Naru (2024) and Lv1 Maou to One Room Yuusha (2023) are the only non-Kirara Houbunsha titles ever adapted. And Manga Time has existed since 1981 soo... (Kirara since 2002).
There's just so little, that I added them to my Kirara interest stacks and no one will probably notice that they aren't Kirara.
This to illustrate the (depressing) chances of non-Kirara Houbunsha getting adapted.

Yup. I could always tell that GochiUsa has been consistently popular. They keep pumping out new merch and live stuff every year. And their Twitter account still gets tons of engagement all the time despite no new anime content for years. It's fan base has never stopped loving the series.

I watched Seasons 1 and 2 years ago and didn't realize it was that popular until I was walking in Akiba and people were posing with displays for it on the street.
I still don't quite get it. I liked the first 2 seasons well enough, but...

Well that and they do official collabs with (it feels like) everyone in the camping scene in Japan. I've got official camping style cups from at least 3 different companies.

Is it a guarantee though, or just likely? Because unless my data is wrong, A Channel (as well as Yuyushiki, Kill me Baby and GA Art Design Class if you count total) should have enough sales, as well as manga materials, for a second season. But it never got one after more than 7 years since the latest content (and more than 13 years if you only count the latest full season).
Sorry for replying weeks after your initial comment, I found this thread because I only discovered Gochiusa is a getting new anime some minutes earlier.

So, I have to add something: you need to take the initial release sales and not add rereleases on top of it, otherwise this Kirara line does not work. Kin-iro Mosaic S2 also would pass the line otherwise (instead it only got a very long OVA and a movie).
On top of that, BD rereleases are done a very long time after the show has ended. For Yuyushiki, the original BD box was released in 2015. However, the rerelease was done in 2021.
A channel has indeed +5500 BD's initially sold for the Someanithing spreadsheet, but 5chan has it at exactly 5,289 and it is in fact the closest to the 5500 Kirara line that hasn't crossed it. It's probably very close still.
The opposite is also true, Machikado Mazoku has 5,173 BD's sold on Someanithing, but on 5chan, it has 5,825 BD's sold initially. However, they do have an earlier version of Kirara sales also (like Someanithing) at 5,173 and that's most likely where Someanithing got it from.
For the record, Someanithing has said himself that he takes numbers from 5chan and other external sources (mostly Chinese forums which now are dead, leaving 5chan as the only main reliable source for us today). So I take 5chan's updated chart for Kirara sales nowadays.
But GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class unfortunately does not cross the line, at 4,700 BD's initially sold across both Someanithing and 5chan.
Now for Yuyushiki and Kill me Baby, those on initial release never made it past the line. With rereleases yes, but we don't count those.
You do make an excellent observation though.
The cases where the Kirara line has been passed but has not gotten a new season is exactly two: Hidamari Sketch and K-On!.
But they both have special reasons why it has not gotten a new season. K-On! is obvious, it simply didn't have new source material or that was too short to have gotten a full new season (K-On! High School and College are too short). For Hidamari Sketch, it was that the VA of Yoshinoya died IRL. For both, they share that they ended literally perfect on graduation.
The reverse (did not pass the Kirara line but got a new season) amount of cases is one: Yuru Camp S3.
In all other cases, the Kirara line is practically clockwork. Which is also why, outside of a miracle, I do not expect a new season of Hoshikuzu Telepath at all (551 BD's sold).

Thanks for replying even though it was so late, it seems my knowledge was inadequate and I didn't consider re-releases.
But regardless, I do know that Hoshitele getting a S2 is practically impossible even with miracles, since it didn't even cross 1/5 of the line. Two of the cases I bought up were shows that got pretty close (more than 4/5 of the requirement) during the initial release, and breached the line with their re-releases. Meanwhile, KMB and Yuyushiki were opposite in that the re-releases got more sales than the initial releases.
Side note, do you have a link to some other chart/table you're using? I only recorded some facts about some shows I like, but my info is horribly outdated (the spreadsheet you linked is outdated as well, though still more up to date then what I had before so I got some new things).

Then for the main threads, use the 'monitoring BD sales' one. It does not always have a list though of BD sales, you gotta dig for that.
Also keep in mind like 4 chan, threads, while they keep existing way longer, also dissapear after some time.
Google translate works enough, look for a post in the thread that has a list with sales numbers, anime names and which season or anime they are posting the anime numbers about.

Someanithing for everything summer 2022 and earlier, 5chan for anything beyond that. For 5chan you need to use google translate a lot and pray you find a list, digging through threads. They usually go back up to a year which is pretty nice as a grace period, I now have most sales recorded until summer 2024 (fall 2024 BDs have only now been released). Erzats btw is quite useless, because they don't usually list everything and sometimes just don't list the numbers at all.

Hmm? There's only 3 seasons and some OVAs. I believe Hidamari Sketch still holds the record for most anime produced based on a Kirara license.

Yep, a staggering 60 episodes for Hidamari Sketch (because specials S1, S2, S3 + SP + graduation are the remaining 11).
Yuru Camp will have 48 + 1 movie + specials (and Heya Camp) at the end of the fourth confirmed season, making it 2nd in content. GochiUsa will have 48 + 1 movie + 1 OVA and is third (assuming the new project is a new season). After that comes K-On! with 41 episodes and a single movie.
This means there is no longer a Kirara anime with 3 actual seasons (K-On! had a double cour for S2) because both of the 3 seasons anime moved to 4 seasons.

This is my favorite CGDCT and am so glad we get more of it!
I remember the first time i tried watching it when trying to expand the anime genres i watch i found it too cute and sugary and dropped it, but after getting more familiar with CGDCT anime i picked this up again and absolutely fell in love with it.
Now it's my most rewatched anime of said genre.

I'd like to analyse a few things, assuming the new anime is another season:
First, this is the largest gap of any Manga Time Kirara adaptation between new seasons, beating its own record (2015 S2, 2020 S3) by at least a full year (2020 S3, 2026 or later S4).
Second, this is the third Kirara anime that will have/have 4 seasons. Yuru Camp will have 4 and Hidamari Sketch already has 4.
Third, this means that the only Kirara adaptation that hasn't gotten a new season despite selling more than 5500 BD's (Kirara line) average is Hidamari Sketch.
And with this announcement, the Kirara line keeps existing, with every Kirara passing this line having a guaranteed new season (except Hidamari Sketch but that has other reasons why it doesn't have S5).
