Swimming in the hot weather

Is there anywhere to swim outdoors in and near Worcester, wild swim or private pool?

Droitwich has the Lido, it’s likely to be busy so isn’t the best of you want to actually swim.

Yeah I thought about it but it's too busy.

Not the Gullet Quarry in Malvern which has a grim reputation for drownings.

If you choose to swim in the Gullet, there are a few things you should be aware of.

1) It is cold, because it's a deep quarry, so don't jump in without getting in first else cold water shock may get you.

2) Don't swim drunk.

3) There is probably abandoned quarry machinery in there. How close to the surface is impossible to say.

For wild swimming I strongly advise not going in any rivers due to sewage dumping & farm runoff!

Sadly our rivers are no longer safe in the UK, unless you can verify there are no waste pipes, sewage treatments or meat farms anywhere near them.

Yeah there aren't actually any rivers free from pollution in the UK, only more or less polluted ones.

Used to be able to swim at top barn/university lakeside near hallow. Can't remember the cost.

The Teme at Bransford is a good swimming spot but it gets very busy. I believe people also swim in the Teme closer to Worcester.

Earnslaw quarry in Malvern is good for cooling off, but is quite shallow. Deep enough to swim, but you will be able to touch the bottom pretty much everywhere unless you are very short. There are also quite a lot of weeds.

I don't trust that the rivers aren't polouted to high heaven. I'll have a look at earnslow.

It’s interesting that a lot of the newer wild swimming lakes don’t seem to give any assurance or indication of the water quality.

There’s an outdoor pool at Highley - not sure how popular it is. Probably massively in this heat x

They also have an outdoor pool but I believe you would need a membership to use it.
