Discussion Anyone else?

So I’m playing the Witcher 1 and have never gotten an different steel sword or armor for Geralt. The lady of the lake gave me a silver sword but I feel like I only ever use the steel sword. Just looked up and found that there’s better swords though the game is beatable with these starting swords and armor. The game didn’t explain how to get different armor or swords and I travel for work so I go five days in between plays so that doesn’t help me remember what’s going on. I really like this game but did anyone else go through this 60 hour game with the starting swords and armor? I guess I’ve got an excuse to play it again now

I guess it's possible to win the game with your starting gear, though the difference in damage vs monsters by silver compared to steel swords is huge. Plus, the hunt for runes and meteorites is a fun part of the game. There are very few unique steel and silver swords, so finding them is a big boost. There's a unique steel in chapter two and one in 4, and the best silver and steel are to be acquired in the final chapter if you complete two quests that start in the very first chapter. Getting them is very satisfying

I guess I’m use to games that hold my hand and explain every detail this game doesn’t really do that it gives you a brief explanation then it goes to the journal and I’ve just been thinking the enemies in the game are really challenging to kill which they are when your using a steel sword and supposed you use a silver and oil it up or diamond dust or whetstone it I’ve got some rune stones but been wanting to save them for a boss or really hard enemy

Yeah, very little hand holding in this one. There's actually two types of runes - crafting runes (sun, earth, moon) are used for (wait for it) crafting, and the perun, svarog, veles ones give your sword a boost for 24h (they work like oils and wheatstones)
