Question Any Places Looking for Work?

Hi everyone, I'm back with the same question again, especially since it's now summertime!

I had high hopes on 2 places where I got to work my first day here in Wexford town, but I've just gotten a message from the lady I was working with that they found 'a better fit'.

I've searched far and wide on Indeed, Jobs.ie, and have asked around plenty of times. My family can't seem to help me much either, my mothers boyfriend insisting that I need to ask, ask, ask, ask, ask, handing in my CV until they can't ignore me, as if everywhere still runs on the same system it did 30 years ago.

I've got experience in restaurants and cafés and am looking ANYTHING, as long as it's not child care.

At the age of 19, with some experience and persistent looking, you'd assume I'd find something eventually, but I'm still in the same place I started.

I'm at the threat of becoming homeless, and it's been absolutely taking a toll on me.

Does anyone know any pubs, restaurants, cafés I could possibly apply in? I don't have a car, but I'm well able to get the bus up if needed. I'm available for full-time, part-time, all of it, as long as I can get some change in my pocket.

I'll keep looking, but the fact that so many of my peers are applying for the same things I am doesn't make me very hopeful.

Being a young person looking for work these days is tough, especially if you're as unlucky as I am.

Any help would be amazing, and I am so grateful for all of the people who responded last time.

If you know anyone personally who's looking for staff, let me know. I do what I'm told to do, no bothers.

Let's hope the summer brings me more opportunities! Thanks everyone 💕

If what you're doing already isn't working, maybe it is time to try a different approach.

Everywhere doesn't run on the same system as 30 years ago, but some places still do. Turning up in person shows you're serious. You're not just sending out CVs randomly just to show Intreo you've tried. They'll get a lot of CVs like that. You need to show that you're different.

All of your peers might be applying for the same things, but I'll bet they're not doing it in person. Stand out from the crowd.

In job hunting, what you'd normally consider to be pushy is seen as eager. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.

A lot of the restaurant stuff is word of mouth. Go back to the people you worked with before and make sure they know you're looking for something. If they hear about something somewhere else, they might recommend you.

Good luck.

Unfortunately I've tried a similar approach, and unfortunately my last places of work have beef with my family 😔

You think it'd be practical enough for me to commute from town everyday? I'll see if I can get contact info anywhere because I need to find at least something.

We hired two young people 18 and 19 , manager said it was cos they had the gumption to walk straight in ask to see them and hand Cv in . Next door neighbours kid got job 2 years ago in ashdown park hotel doing same thing. And heard few other places in gorey that have hired that way too. So I think he’s right, and you might just have the newer generation mentality that what’s old doesn’t work, give it a go ! Dress neatly , be confident, if u walk in passive and shy be no good! YOU GOT THIS !

Thanks, man. I've been turned away plenty and just told to go online though, or I've repeatedly handed in CVs for no answer. I've not got the few quid I need to go to the library and print off 100 CVs to go and hand 15 of them out to the same 4 places for 2 months in hopes of getting a call back. I hope you get my perspective on it, since no, lots of places won't even glance at a physical CV, let alone an indeed application or my emails, even if I get in contact with a manager/owner. So many people do it the 'old way' and the 'new way' just to get 0 luck, you know? Some people have luck and family on their side. I currently don't. I also don't look neat, I don't even have neat clothes, or the money to buy any 😭 I just wear what I can. I don't get anything apart from a roof over my head and maybe something to eat every now and then from my family.
