I understand this is a subreddit dedicated to the iconic TV show the Newsroom but I wanna find a subreddit where I can vent about actual newsroom things. If anyone knows of any subs that are active and used by people working in newsrooms please let me know!

P.S my experience in TV is nothing like what is portrayed in The Newsroom...except everyone is always stressed.

Anyone else rewatch The Newsroom and get chills? So far, everything they focused on is more relevant than ever. Brilliant and horrifying.

Possible spoilers below for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

I was totally caught off guard by BJ Novak's character Jay in The Devil Wears Prada 2 because he's essentially Lucas Pruitt! Jay is a new owner trying to revolutionize an aging media outlet. His vision is to disrupt or even eliminate the conventional journalistic structure, which he views as obsolete. Then a plot develops in which staffers below the chief editor seek to undermine the sale of the company to preserve the old guard. Sound familiar?

With Novak playing similar characters and mannerisms in the two pieces, it makes me wonder about the influence Novak might have had on the writing of The Devil Wears Prada 2, although I don't identify any writing credit for him. Perhaps the alternative is true, that a casting director identified the similarities in the character and brought in Novak?

I’m mid-rewatch years later thanks to HBO Max coming to the UK. I’ve loved Season 1 for years and rewatched it multiple times but IIRC I’ve only ever seen Season 2 and 3 once each.

This rewatch has shown me how good the performances are on this show from Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterstone, but a huge shout out has to go to Jane Fonda’s Leona Lansing. She only appears a handful of times but every time she does she is electric. If anyone was made to deliver Sorkinese, it’s her.

“So, you wanna play golf or do you wanna fuck around?”

“We don’t have the public’s trust, Leona.”

“Well, GET IT BACK!”

Brilliant character played brilliantly by a brilliant actor. Thanks for your time.

in s1 e6, Sloan rips off her headset and interacts with the Japanese representative in Japanese language because she can tell that both she and the representative are being misinterpreted by the interpreter.

Should she have instead informed the interpreter that she spoke Japanese and could understand she was not being interpreted accurately?

I’m having a difficult time understanding why Will, Charlie, and Mackenzie feel soooo responsible for the Genoa story going to air when the decision to move forward with the story is due to Jerry tampering with the tape.

If Jerry had not done that then they never would’ve reported the story. Before finding out what Jerry did they had no reason to believe they were wrong.

Also, how would Jerry even be able to sue for wrongful termination when, again, the story going to air all rested on the tape that he sliced.

Would it not have been a good idea to tell the public why they reported the story and why they believed they were right, or would that have made everything worse for ACN?

When I was watching the John Kennedy and Carolyn Bassett show, I was reminded of how much I like Constance Zimmer as an actress. Between Entourage, Unreal, and especially The Newsroom, she has a gift for being a really charming antagonist.

Did any of you meet Jeff (Daniels) or Emily (Mortimer) in person/worked with them? How were they? I just saw an interview with Emily, recent one. She is just so cute, top energy.

In S2 E1, when Don breaks up with Maggie after seeing the video where she admitted her feelings for Jim, Don says that he thought he was the bad guy because he wasn't in love with her.

Before he asked her to move in, he had been dating her long enough to know that 1. he wasn't in love with her and 2. that she probably did have feelings for Jim and yet he continued to date her AND ask her to move in with him. He led her on, got her hopes up, made her believe that he loved her and that she had a future with him. That makes him a bad guy. He doesn't get to walk away as the innocent victim because of that video.

Even without that video, he would have woken up one day and realized that he was never going to be in love with her and break up with her. Being in a relationship just to be in a relationship, knowing that you're not fully committed, and gambling with someone else's feelings on that chance that you MIGHT fall in love with them is a crap thing to do.

But Maggie is also guilty of being the bad guy because she also wasn't in love with Don and kept playing like she was while denying her feelings about Jim.

I'll clarify that I'm coming to this show on the tail of The West Wing -- honestly, if I knew nothing about this show going into it, I'd probably have no complaints as it's entertaining enough; but following TWW (and with an 8.6 IDMB rating) I was definitely expecting more.

I'm towards the end of season 2, and the thing that tipped me over the edge into making this post was their "$1500/hr attorney" describing themselves as "liquid sex" on her way to a party. The contrast between the interviews with her and Oliver Babish from TWW is so stark it's amazing these are produced by the same person.

This illustrates a running complaint I have, that this show is like watching a show about serious adults written by horny teenagers. I appreciate a romance arc, but the whole will-they-won't-they story is literally the most overused relationship trope in tv. It's been so clear from the first episode who is going to end up with who, but they are obviously going to drag it out until the last episode. Plus every woman in the show is written as one dimensionally teetering on the edge of a freakout nearly every episode.

Again, don't get me wrong, the show isn't terrible, but I don't see how it has an 8.6 on IMDB.

My god the pilot is sooooo much better than I remembered.

When does it dip again quality? Like west wing did in season 5. I want to be ready.

New here but huge fan of the show. I’m really happy they actually got close like Maggie said they should early on because those two are a force of fucking nature working together. You can tell Mac taught them both, but damn they are a good team end of S2-S3

For me I think it's PBS News Hour. A full hour, where they regularly have panels with experts representing each side of the debate. And they tend to stay away from entertainment news (like spending a block on Justin Timberlake's recent DWI for example)

I've started another watch of the show, I'm on s1 ep4, and I gotta say I dislike Jim more every time I watch. He does have some good moments in the first season, don't get me wrong, but I've been skipping most scenes he shares with Maggie. Maybe because I know what's coming but I just can't watch it. He should have stayed with Lisa, imo.​​

Will goes on ACN Morning and then Sloan comes into his office. She starts talking about Goldilocks planets and he says, “You’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, right?”

Is it Mackenzie? I always assumed that but never was sure. I was re-watching and was looking to see if anyone else had the same question.

I’m so excited for this! I love The Morning Show and I can’t wait to see Jeff Daniels as part of the cast.

I’ve watched and re-watched this show more times than I can count. And it took this many for me to be interested in the “Late for Dinner” character. But this on this re-watch, the entire NY Public Library scene just really hit for me. From Charlie sitting at the wrong table, all the way through the convo with his contact. The wittiness of the dialogue combined with the seriousness of the topic was so well done.

I love that each time I watch this show something new hits for me.

Seconds before his heart attack, Charlie said to Pruitt, “We need to talk, you and me right now.” It was when Pruitt threatened to fire the entire floor and Charlie finally stood up to him. What would he have said if he’d made it to their meeting upstairs?

Hate that Jerry guy. Just stated watching, superb show. That Jerry guy… Sloan should’ve taken him down like that other guy with the photos. Haha
