Unless he's getting a significant amount of money, he doesn't need to get a financial advisor. And where he puts a smaller balance really won't matter much short-term.

Keep in mind, the difference between a 3.1% and 3.5% APY on $1000 starting balance is $4 after a year. Unless he's getting a lot of money and putting it into savings, and building the balance over time, the actual account he puts it into may not matter that much unless he has a significant balance.

Edit: I have Amex's HYSA. Probably wouldn't have opened an account if they didn't give a bonus a few years ago. Without knowing how much exactly he's depositing and what bonuses he's able to get, it's hard to recommend anything. New account bonuses typically require $5-10k deposits at a minimum. Anything under that the effort may not really be worth it compared to having funds available for an emergency fund.

It always matters. Get the highest yield at the least difficulty no matter the dollar value.

It is not worth expending extra effort to put $1000 into an HYSA to get an extra $4 at most in interest over the year.

Sure but there is no extra effort and this person might have 100K. You don't really know. Get the most money available.

Actually read the OP and you'll know their general range of what they think might become available to the boyfriend, and you'll see that the number comes nowhere near $100k.

If you have debt / interest, pay that down / off first. If you looking for long term growth, I’d suggest opening a Roth IRA. After maxing that out, yearly, then put funds into a HYSA. Vanguard or Fidelity can provide both services. Vanguard is at like 3.25 for their HYSA right now.

This subreddit isn't for hocking referral codes, or begging for people to reach out to you for your referral codes.

Doctor of Credit is great for these types of recs.

Also, would focus on savings (2-3 months of expenses), then contributing to a Roth IRA. HYSA is arguably more stable and liquid.
