Papeete Sunday Market

We've got some time to kill before our flight to Maupiti, and we've never been to the Papeete Market on a Sunday.

Worth it? Best food option? Anything to know?

Thanks in advance,

It is fine if you pass by, but the food quality is basic, just donโ€™t expect too much. :) Many shops and restaurants are closed in Papeete on Sunday.

If you want to sit down and eat : Kfe Roti. But beware of the queue. They open from 4:30 to 10am, and there's lots of people eating there every sunday morning. They offer a complete tahitian breakfast, you can check their Facebook page.

If you want to just grab something to eat and go, I'd suggest walking around first to see what piques your interest. You have :

  • "pua roti" which my bf's dad (american) compared to brisket. There's a sweet version and a crunchy/salty one.
  • Siu mai,
  • Vana'a (sea urchin, I'd recommend eating that with lime),
  • Firi firi are twisted donuts made with coconut milk (the best ones imo are from Kfe roti).
  • korori tai'oro (pearl oyster muscle in grated coconut, also recommend adding lime)

You'll see a street near the pharmacy that has lots of Chinese/thai/tahitian vendors, you can try whatever looks good to you ๐Ÿ™‚ Prepare cash though, coins preferably, or small bills.
