Season 5 Discussion How do you remember the show ending the first time you watched it?

I remember the first time I finished the show it ended with bay saying goodbye to Travis because he was going on a trip with Emmett.

Then I watched it again a while back and it ended with bay and Daphne laying on the front lawn with the family. The other ending I remember never even happened at all anywhere.

Am I crazy?

Season 5 Discussion Hulu glitched out and totally confused me S5e1

Just came to the subreddit after thinking I was watching s5e1 correctly and I was SO confused. I rewound the episode (I got about 1/3 in) and realized it messed up!

The opening scene was Bay tattooing a woman, getting a phone call, then running to find Daphne in the street. She goes, “We have to go home. Now!” The cliffhanger! Suddenly we flash back to Bay and Daphne hiking (the actual opening scene) and get the rest of the episode progressing normally. I was ready to be confused by the progression, but then I got to where the scene ACTUALLY went, and I was sufficiently confused. I didn’t realize that wasn’t the opener of the season! How bizarre.

If nostalgia got the better of you, here’s the soundtrack of the season two in order of appearance (plus some songs I like here and there). Enjoy in shuffle!

Who do you think made the biggest mistakes in the show?

We all know Daphne went through a lot with destroying the work site of her mom and Wes, dating a much older man at 16, getting high on a college tour and a few other things.

We know John and Regina both knew about the switch before everyone else (even if they found out at different times) and they still kept it to themselves.

We know Toby had a gambling problem and got in a lot of trouble with wilke.

But I wanna hear who you think messed up the worst on the show and why.

EDIT PLEASE READ: don’t comment about tank raping bae if you can’t understand the concept and seriousness of it. Clearly some wanna call bullshit but it’s a very serious thing and woman have a hard enough time in REAL LIFE talking about it and coming forward. These kind of comments are not going to be tolerated any longer but I am leaving the ones who left them as an example of what NOT to do. Unless the user deletes it themselves they shall stay as a point.

Rewatch Talk Rewatching

I’m starting my rewatch and i’m on the second episode of S1 and i actually feel really bad for Bay. Yes she was arrested for drinking alcohol (but she was acting out because she didn’t feel like she belonged and was apart of her family), and the second Daphne moved into the guest house, they were automatically more flexible with her (for obvious reasons). They had a huge interest in getting to know Daphne, and Regina was interested in knowing Bay but not with the same enthusiasm. Regina didn’t really try to reach out to her till Bay stopped by first to get out of trouble.

I think when i first watched i didn’t start seeing the way Bay and Daphne was treated differently till later seasons, but rewatching now that im older i can see the difference from the start and its kinda of sad.

Rewatch Talk Daphne and Chris season 5

i’m rewatching for like the millionth time and i’m at season 5 episode 9 since i’m basically done with my rewatch, and this whole thing between daphne and chris with the steroids reminds me why i really dislike daphne and find her to be such a hypocrite.
i’m definitely nitpicking this specific incident because i just binged the entire show, but it feels like a major tipping point for me not liking her. she really did not have to say anything about her suspicions that he was using steroids. and then to be so cold toward him when he’s upset, when again, she really didn’t have to say anything in the first place.
and now that she’s dropping the urine sample, she’s going on about how difficult this is for her because she wants to be a doctor. like, not that taking steroids can’t be detrimental, but compared to some of the stuff she’s done, this really is not as huge of a deal and girlie CANNOT talk or judge. for her to originally be so okay with the possibility of ruining his life and career over it is just so annoying.
and then she keeps talking about how awful she feels for “cheating” for him. girl just drop the bottle of piss. it is not that serious.
and you’re only even able to be in med school because bay took the fall for your vandalism 😭😭 like come on

Angelo Meeting Bay

It actually was insanely inappropriate the means in which Angelo arranged for himself to meet Bay for the first time. Just showing up to her school as a grown man to a minor because he read about her in an article is crazy work lol. He's her father but I'd imagine he would have enough respect for her to prioritize her safety and make proper arrangements. ALSO when he says, "You don't understand anything I'm saying, do you?" to Daphne at the house ahhh I was mortified

What career did Daphne end up choosing?

I remember Daphne wanting to be a chef and then a doctor. But I can't remember what she ended up settling on.

Its cute that in either timeline, Emmett helps Bay find her biological parent.

Ignoring the second half of the show where Emmett was doing too much, I noticed that Emmett helps her find Angelo, and in the "what if" they were switched but Regina alerts someone, Emmett helps her try to find Regina instead.

On a side note, kinda wild that even then, Regina still doesnt call Angelo to try to help her keep Daphne and be in Bay's life.

Chef Jeff Spoiler

I may have posted about this already but I'm not sure.

Yes, it was wrong and he was in the power position and he is at fault. However, am I the only one that feels like when the writers first introduced the dynamic it was like Daphne had a little school girl crush and he wasn't interested then they completely flipped the script??

Rewatch Talk Any likeable character?

Does anyone actually like anyone in this show? I'm hanging in there to the end but everyone seems so unreasonable. Maybe Travis so far.

Season 2 Discussion Did I miss something about baby Abby? Spoiler

Second edit: Mystery definitely solved I'm dumb and it was in S2 episode 17 and somehow I skipped that ENTIRE episode even though my play history showed I watched it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Edited to Update Mystery probably solved Apparently the whole scene where Angelo, Bay, and Ty visit Abby at Victor and Leo's house was cut from the Disney/Hulu episodes for whatever reason.

First time watching through and I'm at the end of season 2. The show always does a recap of the previous episodes and the recaps have been including several scenes that I know I didn't watch. All of the scenes are about Angelo being at the home of baby Abby and her adoptive parents, and they are yelling at each other about who her father is. There was also one with Bay handing the baby to one of the adoptive dad's because she was crying I guess? And one where they are in a courtroom during the custody hearing.

I went back several times to make sure I didn't accidentally skip an episode but according to my watch history I did not miss any episodes. Are these deleted scenes or what because it did seem very rushed that Angelo found the baby then all of a sudden he has her with no explanation besides those little snippets in the recaps.

Season 1 Discussion Angelo reacted in the right way

SPOILER S1 E30

Angelo went to the MAIZE restaurant and punched Chef Jeff bc he found out he was dating Daphne. I totally agree with this course of action and I don't understand why Regina wasn't pissed too when she found out before. Daphne was literally only 16 and Jeff was 27/28 that's absolutely not okay. I would have reacted the same way if someone of that age was dating my 16 year old kid. It doesn't matter the gender. That's just not okay.

Season 4 Discussion Oh my god???? Spoiler

I'm watching S4e10 and Emmett putting Bay's SA in his movie is INSANE. When he said that what happened to Bay happened to him too was terrible.

Season 3 Discussion Bay is self-centered and self-righteous, and I can’t take it anymore 😭 a rant Spoiler

Just when I think she’s growing as a character, Bay says or does something so unbelievably selfish and self-centered that it irritates the heck out of me.

Spoilers up through 3.15.

So I’m at the point where Angelo gets into an accident. And I just cannot stop finding Bay absolutely insufferable. She’s been annoying since episode 1. I’m pretty sure I stopped watching the first time around because she was just so annoying and unwatchable.

I almost made this post while in season 2 but I just kept waiting for her to grow, because everyone on this subreddit adores her, so I kept thinking I’d like her eventually. But she’s needlessly self-centered about EVERYTHING. I have so many examples I’m up to my eyeballs.

Daphne is just such a sweet kid, I do NOT understand the hate for her at all. Bay tells her not to date Liam, so she doesn’t. Meanwhile Bay dates Ty AND Emmett, and won’t respect Daphne’s wishes. Bay does whatever she wants pretty much without consequence. She does illegal art all the time and lies constantly in season 1. She is so self-important that she drags Emmett into it and he gets arrested. Btw, Bay only learns ASL once she starts dating Emmett, not for her Deaf sort-of sister. Bay asks Daphne for favors and does things when they’re convenient for her but gets mad when Daphne tries to stand up for herself. Bay rarely accepts fault nor learns from her mistakes. And she’s so crushed about being cheated on, then cheats on Tank? It’s hypocritical. Bay begs Daphne not to go to Buckner, then later Bay decides to go to Carlton without any hestitation. Bay sits on her own high horse and gets mad and storms off any time she is challenged. She won’t even listen, unless it’s to find fault in what you say so she can justify being angry and walking away from you. You’re always walking on eggshells around Bay because she so sensitive and self-centered! Everything is always about her!

So now Bay yells at Daphne for taking the SATs?! It’s unbelievable. Daphne can’t do anything right in Bay’s eyes. Bay is the only one who knows right and wrong in her own world, and Bay can do no wrong, everyone else is wrong. It’s SO FRUSTRATING! AHHHH I can’t stand Bay, I’m sorry, I keep trying but she’s insufferable!

EDIT: LMAO thank you to whoever gave me the popcorn award 💀 I have never had such controversial feelings that go against a subreddit’s general opinion like this before. I appreciate the dialogue! I feel passionately about this show, as I do with other television shows. Thank you all for your time.

Could Toby and Simone have worked out?

Do you think they could've been endgame? Did you like the pairing? I think they were cute. And the random reconnection during his Nikki days was weird and unproductive for the plot..

Rewatch Talk They really threw out all the foreshadowing (Season 3 spoilers) Spoiler

Marking this as spoilers even though the show’s been out for ages because this post concerns a pretty big plot point in Season 3.

I’m rewatching for the millionth time and I just realized how much foreshadowing they put right before Angelo’s accident.

The biggest one is how Daphne and Angelo bond right before the accident. They talk about his shortcomings as a father and she forgives him and hugs him and they take a selfie together.

But then also in the ending scene with the Kennishes, look at the lyrics from the song that plays right before it cuts to Kathryn getting the phone call in bed:

Does it make it better

Does it make it worse

Are we so lucky

Are we so cursed

With tomorrow coming

Can our hearts survive

Cause there's no better time to be alive

And to top it all off, right before Bay and Toby split off from John and Kathryn, John tells them to drive safe.

Gosh, I love this crazy show.

Rewatch Talk Rant Spoiler

Can we just talk about the amount of underage/overage dating there is in this freaking show!!!

What the hell are the parents thinking!

I'm sorry but my daughter would never fucking date a man who is 25 years old in the military or a 20 something year old nurse.

17 is still a minor. 16 is def a minor.

Like Regina and Kennish's should be ashamed.

Also the amount of entitlement in this show is exhausting and wild.

Like they are overly spoiled kids.

Daphne even before moving in acted entitled.

And oml the amount of terrible Signing from Daphne.

It's just God awful. I love this show, but Lord almighty. Now rewatching this as an adult. I relaxed this is such a teen show and the messages in this show was so fucking bad and awful. No offense half of the men that dated Daphne should have been arrested. Ooof I'm glad this was made such a curve ball lol 🤣🤣 I would of gotten so many ideas. I would have ended up in jail... 🤣🤣
