The room that they gate into could very well be just a box in space, and I'm wondering if there's anything later to contradict this.

If the only purpose is to hold the Ancient archive then it wouldn't need to be ON a planet, right?

It could be an underground bunker hidden on a toxic planet

Perhaps like Myrrdin's hidden underground treasure vault that Vala leads them to that kicks off the whole Ori thing?
That's proof enough that the ancients could and did do that in milky way.

That was my thinking. Also the asgard lab in pegasus. The 2 races were allied and may share tactics.
