Discussion The Fifth Race Spoiler

Post image

The room that they gate into could very well be just a box in space, and I'm wondering if there's anything later to contradict this.

If the only purpose is to hold the Ancient archive then it wouldn't need to be ON a planet, right?

no reason a milky-way gate can't work in space, as long as there's a DHD or something powering them (like the Pegasus space-gate modules which i imagine are cross-compatible.) The reason we don't see any in SG1 is that the Ancients didn't have puddle-jumpers when they made the milky way network, so there was no need for space gates. Also, the Goa'uld have been moving gates around to suit their needs for a long time, and since they don't use gate ship (any more) they'd most likely harvest any space gates they found and put them on a planet they wanted to colonise.

I know in SGA it was possible(galactic bridge dealo) but I don’t recall any episode in SG1 where it occurred…I know that there’s a lot missing from the lore and thing can get retconned but is there an episode in SG1 that shows them using a gate outside of a gravity well?

The milky way gates get used in half of the galactic bridge, all the way to the space station in the middle. And the gate bridge did appear on sg1. Being on planets is not a technical limitation, just a practical reality in a galaxy without consistent access to gate ships.
