The room that they gate into could very well be just a box in space, and I'm wondering if there's anything later to contradict this.

If the only purpose is to hold the Ancient archive then it wouldn't need to be ON a planet, right?

It could be an underground bunker hidden on a toxic planet

It’s not very well hidden though. The Ra knew about it, added it to the cartouche

I supposed it wouldn’t need to be considering that I think only those with the gene can use it, or maybe it’s just that no go’ulds can and only humans. We never find out bc only jack tries.

Tealc tries, sees only lights. We do see other instances of this technology reaching out and /trying/ to grab other humans that don’t have the gene later in the series. So, no human/snake seems to be the primary prerequisite.
