We are trying!

We need to call them what they are.

Mass surveillance centers.

“You criticize society yet you participate in it, curious.” /s

This data center is not voluntary, when residents have been asked they’ve said no, but it got built anyway. Are people allowed to complain about something they don’t like that’s making their electricity more expensive and the internet worse?

All the more reason NOT to vote Bayly Winder for Democrat. He has a boatload of political donations from AI data center conglomerates. Register to vote if you haven't, claim Democrat as your political affiliation (NJ isn't an open primary state, you have to declare a party to vote) and vote for Tim, Terri, or Zach, they're all are infinitely better. Research them and see who most aligns with you.

This is not a Democrat v Republican issue. This affects us all.

Clear the air anytime, u/BaylyWinderNJ2

I hate this shit so much. Destroying the environment and the drinking water. Government officials pushing it through either due to bribes or the general obsession that ai data centers are gonna somehow turn into thriving money machines. When in reality you’re just gonna tank property values and drive the locals insane.

Fuck ai, fuck ai companies and fuck the bitch ass local government officials for allowing these things to be built.

I don’t think so I just clicked on it. Yeah I hate fb posts but first place I saw this locally.

Oh wow I would loose my mind with that constant noise.

1

u/Secret_Cow_5053 12d ago

Many currently are. Also they are losing their property values.

u/Handsome_fart_face 17d ago

Fuck that noise

Residents of the county are trying to get the city to do something about this. Sustain SJ needs 15% of the amount of Vineland residents who voted in the last election to draft a ballot initiative to try and stall DataOne'$ construction and/or reduce its noise output. The organization could use people to sign on and canvas during June and July.

u/m0x1eracerx 16d ago

Sustain SJ is great!

Better shut these DC's down or you won't have water or electricity soon. Wait until summer when the grid takes a shit on the residents. They'll have to raise taxes again for some new fucking reasons.

People don't see shit until they actually step in it.

u/FoxDie-6 16d ago

I feel so bad for these people. Fuck the politicians who allowed this shit. Their houses will be worthless and they essentially will no longer enjoy quiet peacefulness outside their homes.

This is what happens WHEN YOU DO NOT REGULATE

u/Secret_Cow_5053 16d ago

vineland property values weren't great to begin with but yeah this is gonna tank their property values.

1

u/Fun-Upstairs-4232 16d ago

That and to be honest, Vineland and the word peacefulness shouldn't be in the same sentence. It's either loud music, loud muffler cars, or police sirens constantly.

But yeah, with a shitty school system, the property values are going to be even lower. The only way to potentially get around this if this data center starts investing into the school district and focuses heavily on STEM.

1

u/Secret_Cow_5053 15d ago

lol. Keep dreaming

1

u/Fun-Upstairs-4232 15d ago

Lol oh trust me, I'm not holding breath. 🙃 😂

Focus heavily on STEM to do....what exactly? Most of the STEM careers will be automated by the time the kids have a degree in anything STEM. Also, if you want data centers companies to "invest" in public schooling, you don't ask. You just tax them, heavily, and tell these assholes to deal with it.

1

u/Fun-Upstairs-4232 15d ago

Not all, so you must prepare your kids for jobs that manages those STEM careers affected by AI and/or focuses on AI development. As they say, if you can't beat them, join them. Even jobs/trades that requires human interaction (i.e. Plumbing, HVAC, car repairs, etc.) are at risk. You can literally take a photo of an issue, use your respective AI program and it will tell you the exact issue and how to fix it.

Nonetheless, when it comes to schools and having these AI data centers invest in the school district, I agree with you on taxing the shit out them. But also, ensure that there's CBAs (Community Benefit Agreements) signed and in place. AI data centers can transform local school districts by funding new infrastructure through property taxes, bringing real-world STEM curriculum, and providing direct student mentorship. Because these facilities often require large capital investments, they significantly boost the local tax base without adding new students to the school system.

We see this in Camden, NJ for example. We all know Camden has undergone significant reform in all aspects (and the job isn't complete, just milestones). Now, the integration of data infrastructure and AI education operates differently in this area than in massive rural data center tracts but the process is relatively the same. Because the region is dense and deeply integrated with the Philadelphia metro tech ecosystem, the pipeline relies on cross-sector partnerships involving state grants, higher education hubs, regional tech nonprofits, and corporate tech sponsors. These initiatives led to the following:

  1. Camden County Technical Schools (CCTS): In 2026, CCTS secured a specialized Artificial Intelligence Technology in CTE Pathways Grant from the New Jersey Department of Education. In partnership with Rowan University, students use machine vision to actively train AI models. The project-based curriculum embeds tech literacy directly into traditional Computer Science, Agricultural Science, and Environmental Studies tracks.

  2. Eastern Camden County Regional: The district secured a $75,000 AI Innovation in Education Grant. This funding divides programming into "Teaching with AI" (teacher productivity and classroom integration) and "Teaching about AI" (student technical literacy and logic).

https://www.njsba.org/news-information/school-board-notes/new-jersey-department-of-education-announces-grant-awards-to-support-artificial-intelligence-in-education/

  1. The Rutgers–Camden AI Campus: Launched in 2026 as part of the National AI Campus network, this initiative partners with the NJ AI Hub and Microsoft’s TechSpark Initiative. It explicitly focuses on building an inclusive, workforce-ready pipeline in data science and machine learning for the South Jersey community, introducing local K-12 students to tech mentors.

  1. Dual Enrollment Datathons: Led by Camden County College, high school students participate in real-world data science challenges and "Datathons". This provides dual-enrollment credits that bridge the gap between high school diplomas and advanced tech degrees.

https://www.njcommunitycolleges.org/news/nj-pathways-highlight-increasing-dual-enrollment-opportunities-and-awareness-of-data-science-through-datathons-competitions-at-community-colleges-and-high-schools/

  1. Non-Profits such as the Camden Dream Center of Technology and Hopeworks step in to act as community data and training centers as a prerequisite for any STEM career pipeline. Sponsored heavily by corporate tech giants like Cisco, this center acts as a direct IT training school. It hosts summer programs like the CDF Freedom School, combining literacy with heavy STEM enrichment, and operates a Cisco Networking Academy apprenticeship program to place local youth directly into networking and data security jobs. Additionally, these tech hub trains local youth (ages 17–26) in high-level coding, GIS mapping, and web development. It partners with corporate businesses to place students into sustainable, high-paying tech careers, feeding the regional talent pool required by data processors.

TLDR: Check out the sources provided and think about the benefit how STEM can be incorporated into jobs, even the ones you think AI will fully take over. All of these initiatives won't transform places like Vineland overnight but its a good start to get your kids involved locally and early so they're ahead of the curve. The Vineland school district is not going to prepare the current students for these changes now but parents can start preparing now by checking out neighboring counties and getting their kids enrolled in such programs.

Why not put them where it's cold?

1

u/versus_gravity 12d ago

I assume that why the President wanted to steal Greenland, after one of the tech twats in his pocket clued him on to the idea.

1

u/Secret_Cow_5053 12d ago

It would need to be like Alaska cold, and generally there isn’t sufficient other infrastructure, but your point is still valid in that this shit could go a lot of other places that are more appropriate. Like for example, repurposing industrial zoned areas that have been gutted by manufacturing loss over the last 60 years 🤷‍♂️ those regions also have the benefit of not generally being on top of residential areas and are in need of new investment, AND have the electrical infrastructure already in place. The problem? That infrastructure may need to be upgraded to handle power fluctuations that may have been acceptable to heavy machinery, and of course, are subject to industrial rates. And we can’t have that! /s

‘Member when people used to complain about the imaginary noises that 5G antennas put out, or WiFi? But this is fine, right? /s

The township surgically examined the Energy Conservation Code filing drawings for compliance... right??

u/g_ppetto 18d ago

Don't have facebook. Is it a generator?

9

u/Secret_Cow_5053 18d ago

It’s 5 gigawatts of computers

8

u/leequarella 17d ago edited 17d ago

I'm completely against the data center in Vineland, but everything I've seen about it says it's in the range of 350mw and eventually maybe climbing to 1 gigawatt.

The thing is bad enough without us exaggerating facts, and those kinds of exaggerations make it easier to dismiss legitimate concerns.

2

u/m0x1eracerx 16d ago

Construction generators, a shitload. Wait until the airline engines are installed.

-39

u/g_ppetto 18d ago

Really?? I've been working with computers, small, large, and super since 1971. I've never seen computers measured in gigawatts. If you want to get people on your side of the argument against data centers, you need to cut out the bullshit answers and maybe educate yourself a little. You have lost my support for anything against data centers.

20

u/Yesindeedfriend 18d ago

Google is your friend, old person

-28

u/g_ppetto 18d ago

Yes it is. I use it frequently. Learn the correct terms and definitions if you are going to try to make a convincing argument. Yes, I am old. The first computer I hacked had 40,000 memory locations and spoke decimal. I still write programs in machine language.

15

u/Yesindeedfriend 18d ago

Oh I don’t care about any of that. Your comment over the use of gigawatt is so ridiculous, you are obviously past your prime.

18

u/Secret_Cow_5053 18d ago

The amount of power the data center is gonna use will be measured in gigawatts, dumbass

5

u/NoWarForGod 18d ago

"5 gigawatts worth of computers"

You good?

When it's being powered by 22 gas turbines it does.
