It should be noted here that I've also tried Hammer++ since the original post, but it did nothing to solve the issue on display here.

Hammer on Wine was so bad I proceeded to get a $20 windows computer with a dedicated 4:3 monitor just for using this program with my linux mouse/keyboard via anydesk.

I'd sooner write my own Hammer from scratch than boot back into Windows.

It's not that I can't, I just really don't want to.

I feel you but this things a nightmare, wines winapi open/save as dialog is broken on hammer for me that was the final OK I'm done with this moment for me.
