What's the stars per dollar ratio on these? That's the real question

This is my thought too, shake shack and 5 guys easily cost double what the other burgers cost, so yeah they better be better

a shackburger here is $7.50

a 5guys little cheeseburger is $8.50

a whopper is $5.90

so, more, but not double.

edit: for people complaining about which burger's price i chose to compare, im comparing burgers with a single ~4oz patty

Got the new Shake Shake BBQ rib sandwich today: $13.99! Just for the sandwich. That said, it was real, whole baby back ribs that they removed the bones from and put on a sandwich, but still…

While this is probably true, you're also much more likely to find coupons and discounts on a Whopper compared to Shake Shack.

I feel like fast food in general feels exorbitant without app offers and coupons these days.

At least where I am - Shake Shacks are normally positioned in wealthy areas. Ive gotten a combo before for like 20-25$. While the burgers are tasty the size of the burger and the amount of fries does not really make up for that.

It’s the same reason I don’t go to Five Guys - expensive meals for a burger and fries that won’t really blow me away.

You can literally go to a sit down restaurant and order a gourmet burger for the same price.

In-N-Out is by far the best price to food and taste ratio out there. They win - period.

Of course the best will always be the ma & pa local chains, but in terms of fast food

only assholes pay the listed price for the whopper.

mhm. you can get 2 whopper jrs for 5 bucks.

1

u/yll33 9d ago

whopper jrs have 2oz patties. a single patty shackburger has a 4oz patty

1

u/yll33 9d ago

im comparing a single 4oz patty burger to a single 4oz patty burger

the double patty shackburger has 2x 4oz patties. the single has one.

the standard cheeseburger at 5guys has 2x 4oz patties. the little cheeseburger only has 1x 4oz patty.

the whopper has a single 4oz patty. the whopper jr by comparison has a 2oz patty.

aa beef is the single most expensive ingredient, it is the most appropriate benchmark for which burger to compare.

Shake Shack costs 2x what In-N-Out does and it’s half as good.

Sorry, Shake Shack > In n Out in everything but price.

Shake shack is genuinely horrible. I have no idea why people like it.

3

u/BMonad 10d ago

It’s much better than In n Out. After trying it at different locations I could not understand the hype. Think it’s people just growing up with it.

2

u/Olgrateful-IW 10d ago

That’s all it is.

4

u/Olgrateful-IW 10d ago

Respectfully, no. Shake Shack rocks.

After the experiences I’ve had at ours, I’ll never eat at one again. Too many better options.

5

u/PFI_sloth 10d ago

In n out really isn’t that great. It’s fine

I legit never understood Anthony Bourdain’s obsession with the chain. To the point that every time he was asked his favorite burger, he had to bring up In N Out. Every time he did a show in California, he had to show himself getting In N Out.

When you pair it with, say, Dwayne Johnson going to In N Out “for the first time” once every couple years on his social media, other A Listers like Julia Roberts posing with the shit, it legit makes me think they have a bunch of celebs on payroll doing covert advertising for their very mediocre product.

i realize hyperbole is what it is, but you shouldn't just make up numbers

from a taste standpont, i like it better than mcdonalds/burger king/wendys, but shake shake was much better. the potato bun is just better. but tastes are subjective.

but as to your claims of price, an in & out patty is 2oz precooked. shake shack patties are 4oz. so a double double is the same amount of beef as a single shackburger

so going by houston (closest in&out to me) prices, the double double is $5.55

again going by houston prices, $7.49 for a single shackburger

$5.55 x 2 = $11.10

$11.10 > $7.49. saying it is about 40% more expensive would be more accruate

Not a chance. Shake Shack blows them out of the water but it’s definitely 3-4x more expensive.

Plus you can throw peanuts on the floor like a longhorn steakhouse

Don’t you dare mention Shake Shack and five guys in the same sentence. Shake Shack is worth every penny, five guys is just a normal burger joint with nothing special going for it.

3

u/Mr___________sir 9d ago

Five guys is better every day of the week regardless of price

0

u/TheRuneMeister 9d ago

Thats insane…

2

u/HismajestysTemplar 9d ago

I work at shake shack and even I like five guys

1

u/TheRuneMeister 9d ago

I like ‘Five Guys’ just fine…still don’t think its in the same league as Shake Shack. Obviously, if you work there, then you know how the sausage is made (so to speak). That probably changes your perspective a bit. :)
Of course it also depends on what you are looking for in a burger. It needs to be tasty of course, but some people like me enjoy the simplicity of ‘Shake Shacks’ burgers. And the ‘softness’. I’m also very much a fan if the way you cut the buns. Its all the little things.

Definitely not even close to double…from previously looking into this, after fixing for portion size, McD’s/BK were only ~10-15% cheaper.
