Shake shack in Japan is a different animal compared to the US. Their cheese sauce is insane.

Everything in Japan is awesome. Even McDonald’s has bidets!

Absolutely

I had Shake Shack for the first time in Vegas and it was pretty solid.

Saw many Shake Shacks in Tokyo but ate only local cuisine. Because it is amazing. But will try for sure next time I am there

I don’t think bad food exists in Japan, whether it’s local cuisine or a foreign chain run by the Japanese. Truly a marvellous country for your tastebuds.

I had a pint of Guinness in Ginza as a joke and to my surprise, it turned out to be on par with anything you’d get in Dublin. I don’t know why it was surprising given my prior statement.

Im German. I tried 5 different beers and all of them were really good!
They truely master it all

By the time we actually got shake shacks here in new england the quality must have already deteriorated because 5 guys is way better.

To be fair, I think Shake Shack and Five Guys are out of place in this whole exercise.

They’re higher quality, slower, made-to-order burgers. Not drive-thru GMO stuff.

People can have their fair criticisms, it’s just not an appropriate comparison.

As an aside, burger preferences are really subjective. Anybody can make their own burger exactly how they like it, if a takeout burger is subpar and/or too expensive.

We can call burger preferences subjective all we want, but Five Guys literally does not season their patties.

We believe the beef we serve is juicy and flavorful enough without seasoning. If you would like to add salt and pepper to your burger, please request packets from our crew members or look for them at our condiment stations.

Five Guys also does not melt the cheese onto their patties, they put cold cheese on the patty after it is finished cooking.

And their menu in the UK states:

“[contains ingredients] produced from genetically modified corn, sugar beets and soy beans”

(their buns contain corn - and they don’t have to disclose this in the US)

So yeah, they’re definitely out of place by being almost the most expensive around, but also the most poorly executed. I assume most people load up with so many toppings that they just don’t care.

I was hungry and out of options a few months ago and learned my lesson. $13 plus tax for this. Sad joke.

Five Guys ain't close to anything. Bland and overpriced burgers. Tried dressing them any which way and they're always mediocre at best. Fries are amazing though.

Disagree. My local five guys all the veg are fresh and properly cut. Protip: you can get extra cheese and bacon for no extra charge. I would classify the burger meat as a true smash burger that doesnt advertise itself as one. Bacon and cheese double pattie burger is like $14 CAD, with the exte bacon and cheese and toppings I can easily customize that puts it ahead of every burger chain.

The toppings are always fine. I'm talking about the patties themselves. Ain't ever been anything but flavorless mush to me. No good beef flavor, no good seasoning flavor. I get nothing from them. If I'm getting a burger I want to taste the beef first and foremost.

I replied to someone else but they literally do not season their burgers.

Find me a credible chef or food critic who will defend that

Had Five Guys in London. One of the most, if not the most bland food you can eat. Overpriced as fuck, no idea why anyone would eat again.

I typically hate McDonald’s but it tastes heavenly in london

1

u/rand0m_task 10d ago

Yeah, that was a British issue, not a five guys one.

UK beef is not the same as US beef. My point still stands.

2

u/cafesamp 9d ago

you’re supposed to make fun of the British for not seasoning their food, not of us

1

u/rand0m_task 9d ago

I’ve gotten myself into a bit of an argumentative pickle here, I believe.

u/Daxtatter 9d ago

5 guys is a good slop burger. By the time you're done the bun is soped in grease.

Shake Shake is in a entirely different league.

4

u/Environmental-Owl600 10d ago

Probably better in Japan but yeah shake shack is better than all of these in my opinion

1

u/PorkProofPrion 10d ago

Even shake shack in china is great. It came to me looking exactly like the product shots

u/Centimane 9d ago

American chains in Japan (and any other country) will be different from how they are in America. Just how different will depend on how different the country is (e.g. they'll be close to the same in Canada, still pretty close in the UK, a little more different in other parts of Europe, etc.).

Complicates the comparison.

Probably just in Japan, in the states it's the smallest, greasiest, cardboardiest patty out there .

Five guys is literal garbage. I'll assume shake shack is the same 👌

0

u/AyoSummy 10d ago

They’re very different.

u/Tiller-Nive 10d ago

Five Guys is crap, I thought Shake Shack would be too, but recently tried it and it's actually good. Kinda a smash burger type thing, like good sear...maybe more of like your favorite popular local burger stop..aka hella heavy burgers. Not cheap, but waaay better than FG

There was a 5 guys here years ago. They shut down lol
