Record revenue and 4,000 layoffs in the same day really highlights how āstrong resultsā donāt necessarily translate to job security anymore.

I don't know when "strong results" ever guaranteed a job. Layoffs aren't new.
Being the most expensive labor option when other options exist will always put a target on you

Why does media keep putting record revenue/profit and layoff counts in the same title as if one is supposed ton preclude the other? And why do people take the bait?

Honestly, I dunno; Iāve seen client businesses of ours layoff or just fire for bullshit reasons (with the real reason being tenured person making bank to do very little.)
Even if it ends up being a terrible mistake, I have never once seen a business actually turn back. They figure out production processes and shit they can cut or assign to someone else (in order to eliminate the department) rather than bringing people back.
If thereās one thing high-up corporate management hate, itās admitting they were wrong.
