[PS5] Skyrim Anniversary Edition PS5 for $16

I haven't played Skyrim in almost a decade, but I did really enjoy it when it first came out. I saw that the Anniversary Edition is only $16.49 on the PlayStation store right now.

That seems like an amazing price! However, I have read that some people find the extra content annoying or immersion-breaking, because the gear is powerful and the new quests are unvoiced. As I understand it, you can't turn off the "extra" quests, but you can toggle features like survival mode (which I am not interested in).

It has been a long time since I've played, so I'm not sure I'd remember what is original content and what is the new, fan-created content.

The posts I came across of people complaining made me hesitate on buying the game. Is this just people being whiny on Reddit? Or does it truly ruin the game? Should I grab the Anniversary Edition for $16, or wait for the Special Edition to go on sale? Special Edition is currently $40.

Have you played the Anniversary Edition with the Creation Club content?

It's true that the additional Creation Contents are overpowered, but tbh Skyrim is less about the difficulty but just about the vibe and exploration.

And it's also true most of the CC are unvoiced, they also abusing the "note" to tell the narrative. Another thing is that most of them are just so immersion breaking bcs they'll just appear in your quest journal. During the beginning of the game after you exit the cave, you'll be bombarded with popups and quest notice bcs of that.

Their narrative also aren't that good imo, especially the goldenhill plantation, hands down the goofiest shit I've experienced in the game, lol. But the added contents itself is good.

Sadly, you're on PS so you can't fix those issues like PC player. Idk if PS lets you disable certain CC, I thought it's possible but I don't have ps5 so i can't tell.

With all that being said, it's still worth it imo. There are a lot more "good" than bad imo so overall it's still a net positive experience.

It definitely showed its age when I played it last year for the first time in years but the vibes and ambience still are stellar

Worth it of course

also there are PC mods that are being ported to the PS5

And also you could try survival mode or increase the difficulty if you found the game easy

I first played on SE in 2025 and upgraded to AE in 2026. I think a lot of the dissatisfaction stems from the mod environment being broken. My own mod setup took a full day to rebuild on PC, but if you're on console and playing vanilla, that shouldn't be an issue. That said, there were 2–3 moments in CC content where I hit bugs that required the setstage console command to progress, so there may be some quests you can't complete on console. Then again, SE on its own is pretty buggy too, so I don't think it makes much of a difference. Forgotten Seasons was a lot of fun. Most of the other CC quests felt like filler, though.
