Dynamic cervix, no measurements given

Hi all,

I just had my anatomy scan yesterday at 21 weeks. The scan was reviewed by the MFM who told me that I have a dynamic cervix. I was kind of flustered at first, so I didn't think to ask details about length and stuff.

Fast forward to a lot of googling, and it seems like everyone here has access to their cervix length. I called my ob office and she said that the Dr didn't out in thr length, and just stated "Dynamic", put me on modified bed rest and 400mg of progesterone daily. Anyone else have a similar experience?

He didn't mention any funneling or dilating, and although he's a high risk ob at a hugh risk hospital, he didn't seem too concerned. I have another u/s in ten days, but my questions aren't answered. I'm panicking that I can go into labor now

See if you can message your doctor on the patient portal so that it’s in writing. I feel like you have a right to know to help gear informed decisions

Thank you. We sadly don't have a patient portal like that. My u/s was at my delivery hospital, and reviewed by one of the MFM there, then the report was sent to my obgyn, who called me to give me the details. She didn't have the cervical length, however, and when I called the hospital birthing center, they didn't have it either. The report simply said "Dynamic". It's just so frustrating to be so stressed and also feel like your questions aren't being answered.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I would follow whatever recommendations they give you for now. Have you been referred to a MFM outside of the hospital?

Yeah I am. I'm taking things very easy, and taking my progesterone. The way it's structured here is weird. My obgyn is at a clinic who works alongside my birthing hospital. So I get an update fro the on call Dr at the birthing hospital on the spot, then an update from my obgyn. The issue I guess is that my ob only gets the reports and details that the hospital sends, so her feedback is as limited as that info is. I'm so far still on the low risk list though, which I guess is positive?

Ah okay. Did they say how long you need to be on modified bed rest? Maybe you still have some length left that is within average but on the lower side. A dynamic cervix means that depending on the amount of pressure they put, your cervical length appears longer or shorter in some views

So since I have a follow up two weeks after this ultrasound, he said be very lazy from now until then and then they'll reassess. That's for your comment! I keep trying to tell myself that there wasn't any funneling or dilation listed in the report, so that should be positive. It's just not clear to me if I could potentially go into labor any day now, and that's my worry

Yes that is a positive! I had funneling and dilation and ultimately did get a cerclage. I was 22w. If they feel like you aren’t in a place where it’s going to shorten dramatically then that’s great! I’m sure since they sent you home and feel like you can hold until the next appointment that’s a good sign. I know it can be nerve wracking. There are also some success stories here of people going full term with just progesterone alone 😊
