Gap in Peen?

I recently received this Type 18c sword by Swordier and noticed that there’s a gap in the peen. It’s mostly on the one side but the other side has a slight gap too.

Should I be worried about this? It’s wide enough to fit a exacto blade through the gap. I’ll contact Swordier and see what they say but is this a normal amount of gap?

I wouldn’t hit it with a hammer unless it’s a problem, you’ll put marks in it that you won’t be able to get out unless you repolish all the way to that mirror finish which will take a ton of fine grits

You can perfectly well get a a mirror-like finish without polishing anything at all.

The entire trick is just to have the face of the hammer be flat.
