PSA Influenza and Covid-19 cases are up - Mask up on the MRT!
Attached are the screenshots of the Weekly Infectious Diseases Bulletin released by the Communicable Diseases Agency, namely the latest one, the one from a week ago, and the one released 8 weeks ago.
In E-week 20 which is the week from 17 to 23 May 2026, the number of people seeking treatment in the polyclinics for ARI is 2973, a persistent increase from 1 week ago of 2858 and 8 weeks ago of 2500.
Additionally, the positivity rate of Covid-19 among ARI samples is 18% in E-week 20, a sharp increase considering that it was 13% 1 week ago and only 3% 8 weeks ago.
The positivity rate of Influenza among ILI samples is 15% in E-week 20, compared to 11% 1 week ago and 7% 8 weeks ago.
I also realised that the top respiratory pathogen among adult samples from the National Surveillance Programme for Acute Respiratory Infection is SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes Covid-19.
After evaluating the situation, I advise everyone to stay safe such as by wearing masks on public transport especially on the MRT, and seeing a doctor/staying home when unwell as well as washing hands frequently. This reduces the spread of infectious diseases, protecting your health as well as those close to you.
Thank you for reading this analysis.

No. There is no reason to wear a mask in public, not even on the MRT. Stop spreading fear.
