Bonding Got a mini husbun for Slushie

How much trouble did you have bonding your buns? They both seem curious about each other and had two successful dates at the shelter. She keeps sneaking into the kitchen to see him and we have to intercept her to make sure they don’t piss each other off.

I have done loads of bunny bonding over the years. Some were friends on sight and bonded by the end of the day, others hated each other and took months.

Our first bond was slushie with my OG Bunz. That was immediate. Then two fosters in between didn’t work, she wanted to be dom. Now hopefully this will be easier because he’s a pip squeak for my skiddish slushie

Do you have any tips? My girl has been pretty aggressive towards the new bun, even though we're keeping them separated until he's fixed. She always lurks around his pen like she wants to nip at him, and I'm so scared the bond won't work. In the past, my bunnies bonded instantly.

There is a herbal calming product (in my country, at least) called pet remedy. It can work really well for some animals. I always use when bonding and then basically you just gotta stop them fighting until they stop trying to fight. Sometimes putting food down for them to share can help however some bunnies can be food aggressive so be careful and gauge the individuals’ personalities. Good luck.

Thank you!

Ordered! I hope it works, because that stuff is expensive! Do you spray it on both bunnies?

Yeah I just spray it in their fur and rub it in. Also spray in the area around them e.g. in bedding or the floor. Give it 5-10mins and it chills them out. Obvs don’t spray it in their face but it’s safe on their fur. I’ve seen them lick it off themselves (and each other) and they never get bad reactions. One of mine was particularly susceptible to it - it was like he was stoned whenever I used it 😅 I buy it in the larger spray bottles. You can also get plug in diffusers which I used to use when I had a large group of bunnies living together, just to keep them all on a nice baseline level of chill to prevent scraps. It works well on my cats too. I have one cat who overgrooms and it helps stop him doing it so much. He hates the stuff though so it’s hard to spray near him without pissing him off. It has quite a herby smell to it and might even chill you out as it’s valerian which works on most animals lol

Thank you! Now I'm thinking I should have ordered the diffuser too. One of my buns is super chill, but the other one, not so much. Lol my husband is going to kill me for spending more money on these rabbits.

Rabbits are good at spending our money aren’t they? The most I had at one time was 9 buns (the numbers have dwindled over the years for obvs reasons, down to 2 now) and I was genuinely spending thousands £ on them every year.

This is my husband's chief complaint. He wasn't the one who wanted a rabbit, let alone 2, in the first place. I got them pet insurance though. He also complained about the cost of that lol.

Looking back pet insurance is a must tbh. These little creatures are so good at getting unwell and then hiding their symptoms from you! I’ve had a lot of bunnies live to old age but too many that went early due to chronic respiratory or digestive illnesses, or recurring E.C.

Agreed! One of my buns had to have surgery that cost thousands, but it saved her life. Wish I had insurance back then.

This is the combo I always go with, bigger gorl with smaller boi. Don't know why, but it has always worked well for me with bonding. Maybe bunny boys just like their girls thic

Well said! Theory being tested and will report back lol

I found if there’s an initial attraction then bonding goes easier. I tried to bond my boy Pippin with 2 other buns with no luck until he met the love of his life Liefje - they bonded instantly. Sadly she passed a few months ago and I’m only going to adopt if Pip chooses.

So sorry for your loss! What a beautiful couple! Yeah, this was all about slushie’s vibe for sure. Males seem easier going to bond imo

So cute! I’m getting ready to adopt a second bun in the new year and bond her to my teeny tiny boy.

What's his name?

11

u/angeofleak Jan 01 '26

His shelter name is bacon but I thought Spotty Pippen but everyone loves a little bacon!

I always have lots of trouble the first few months and then something just clicks and they become inseparable and glued together. What a cute couple!!

2

u/mogseed Jan 02 '26

1 week, 5 months, ongoing (2.5 week start)- that's how long in my limited experience.

2

u/angeofleak Jan 02 '26

It varies for sure. Sending you good vibes! We got the munchkin Tuesday and are waiting for him to settle before their first date.
