NRB Overnight Trips

My son is considering one of the NRB overnight trips - any other freshmen out there considering? He is leaning toward white water rafting.

I did that one when I was a freshman in 2008. Had a great time!

I’m leading one of the trips this year and was on one last year! It was an amazing experience for me and did a really good job bridging the gap between summer and the start of college. I was on the Pharaoh lake backpacking trip (highly recommend for any skill level), and will be one of the leaders for the Adirondack mountain backpacking this year. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thinking about going on the Adirondack backpacking but a little worried about the skill level, how intense will it be?

It’ll be fairly strenuous, and not for a beginner to either hiking or backpacking, but I wouldn’t also classify it as something where you’ll need to be an S Teir (or even A Teir) athlete to manage. We’re looking at some pretty long days, but the final plan hasn’t been decided yet.

Edit: STRONGLY recommend Pharoh lake to beginners

Do it! White water rafting is a blast! I'm sure many other freshmen will be of the same mind.

I went on camp fowler my freshman year and it was awesome. It’s a great way to meet new people and get situated before you have to start juggling a social life with school work. Would highly recommend. I’ll actually be leading the camp echo trip this summer so let me know if you have any questions too!

Definitely a great time! I went to camp fowler my freshman year and it was very fun. I've heard white water rafting is very fun as well!

NRB trips are great times to meet new people, I know loads of people who made lasting friendships from their trips. Plenty of people do them!

that one will be lots of fun ( I did one called Gorham in 2022 and we starved so avoid that one)

My son is anticipating on going; he hasn't made a preference determination yet since he is wrapping up final exams and projects this week. I know he barely misses the age cut-off for the peer led groups.
