What is this parking lot even for?

Post image

Mostly empty parking lot across the street from the library that could be used on the weekdays. So many people working on the street when there's all this space here. Just creating more heat

You mean the AOB lot? It’s getting ripped up for a 140 unit apartment building so say goodbye to all that free public parking once the construction starts

Do you know how much it costs to rent/buy in this town? we need more housing

The costs for the apt are going to be even high because it’s a new build apt.

More housing won’t fix the problem at all. The housing needs to be affordable.

More housing means more affordable. Supply and demand. The effects wont be immediate.

Where are we parking for all these downtown events? I'd rather park and even pay here than for this lot to be something else completely

No, less people

Just wait. Parking will be non-existent shortly.

I thought the signs all there say city employee parking

This is correct. This is not a public parking lot most of the time. Losing this lot barely affects the parking situation downtown, if it affects it at all.

Yeah but it's not full at all.

It’s also Sunday so the library is closed. It’s never full full, but it’s usually not empty when there are workers there.

I took this on Thursday at noon while people were circling the Pioneer Park parking lot looking for parking when there are dozens of unused spaces in this lot.

Anyway, another user commented that it's going to be an apartment building so any future use for public parking is obsolete.

Just some context, old city hall used to be on this lot. After the new one was occupied, the city tore down the old one and turned it into a parking lot.

Councilmember Johnson used to park in it when he commuted to Seattle to sell shoes at Nordstroms.
