Hello friends from Poland, I am a researcher from Romania and, for context, I am currently writing a thesis on Post-Communist Identity, Society & Climate Change.

For this multidisciplinary paper, I have made a survey to actually ask people from Poland, Ukraine and Estonia how do they feel about their country's post-communist identity, and if they can sense any tie this may have to its current climate change mitigation effort. Poland is especially important for my research due to its high energy reliance of coal.

The survey takes 3 minutes to complete, it is very easy to navigate and open-ended questions are completely optional. Every answer is anonymous, I do not gather any type of data other than the answers themselves.

Please let me know if this is upsetting, my intention is to only research a subject that has affected my country as well, I just want to see how other people relate to this issue. It is designed to be as unbiased as possible and to only see how people personally feel about it.

If you have any more questions or any feedback I will be happy to receive them and have a conversation. I love Polish people, I have met a lot of them during my research trips and projects in Warszawa, Kraków and Gdańsk.

Hi Poland enjoyers, this is my first foray into something that touches on polish history, I want to make more videos on Polish history related topics. I am hoping I can get some feed back from people from Poland or just Polish history enjoyers. I usually make videos about abandoned towns or "off the beaten path" historical topics, any advice on good topics to cover from polish history?

I’ve started to write a novel set in the Deluge/Second Northern War and I’d like to read other novels that are also set in that war and the Khmelnytsky Revolt and the Thirteen Years War. Is there anything else you know of (preferably in English or French, my Polish is quite shaky) besides what I’ve listed?

Patrick Gordon was a Catholic Scotsman who attended a Jesuit college in Poland for a few years before dropping out and joining the Swedish army. He fought in the Second Northern War (“the Deluge”), switching sides between Sweden and Poland-Lithuania a few times. When the war was over, the only employment he could find was with Muscovy, where he stayed for the rest of his life, ultimately rising to the rank of general.

His Diary is one of the best English-language primary sources for 17th century Poland. He describes battles, but also his encounters with many civilians. Volume 2 of his diary even has a passage where he reflects on how much better the PLC is to Muscovy.

While the diary is widely available online, most editions are incomplete backtranslations from a 19th century German translation. I made a small 54mm diorama of a Polish Winged Hussar charging European pikemen inspired by the kind of encounters that could have happened around the time of the Thirty Years’ War.

The Polish Winged Hussars were one of the most effective heavy cavalry formations in early modern Europe. Known for their long lances, heavy armor, and iconic “wings,” they specialized in shock charges capable of breaking dense infantry formations, even those armed with pikes.

While they rarely fought directly in the Thirty Years’ War, their tactics and battlefield reputation were shaped by similar infantry systems used across Europe at the time.

This piece is hand-painted, and I tried to capture the moment just before impact when discipline meets momentum.

I see a huge ammount of Toponyms in poland with the ethnonym Serb/Sorb/Sarb/Surb.

Besides this link there are about 20 more just like this, microtoponyms and toponyms in Poland I found easily just by zooming on google maps (in 15 minutes time).

In ,,De Administrando Imperio`` the Byzantines said that 1 prince of the Serbs told them that he is from Visla, from a tribe called Litziki.

They note that Serbs came south to the Balkans from a land called Boiki, or white Serbia, which is beyond Turks (Hungary) and next to Frankia (Germans).

Do we know how old these toponyms in poland are?

Many are probably from Lusatian Sorbs moving in.

There seem to be too many toponyms to be just from migrations of Lusatian Sorbs into Poland (fleeing from Germans probably).

Also the toponyms are everywhere in poland - east, west, center, north, south.

Plus we have this one Serbian prince in Zahumlie (Hercegovina) who said he is from the Visla, a tribe called Litziki. That sounds like Lechiti Lekhiti to me.

This tells me some of the toponyms in Poland must be connected to the Serbs who lived in Poland on the Visla (not Lusatia).

What do we know bros? Enlighten me if you can.

White Eagle: Polish culture and political powerhouse in it's prime

"In its prime, “this place would be sold out,” recalled longtime staffer Gabi Vargas. “On a Saturday, it would not be available.”

Love Gabi, and loved my job there as Director of Marketing. I stepped down from my role to run full time for 49th Ward Alderman. "In its prime", were my days there. We had everyone from weddings to Charlie Kirk, funeral home trade shows, memorial services, fashion shows, dance parties, and cultural (especially Polish) events.

And regarding hosting of Charlie Kirk's organization and political parties, Democrats and Republicans utilized our several halls for fundraising, awards ceremonies, and training. I recall Cook County Department of Elections official election training annually. There was of course a restaurant in the past, that closed and the cafe shop that continued to serve dine in, or to go.

There was an Indian wedding where they rode in on a horse, and Aqua-shella, an aquatic trade show that turned the entire building into an aquarium, complete with an enormous inflatable octopus over the canopy. Cannot forget weekly bingo, which filled an entire hall with over 100 seniors. There was a Las Vegas casino fundraiser annually, with roulette, and poker. Chicago PD TV show also regularly filmed on location.

There were anywhere from five to eight on the sales team, and I had a respectable budget for marketing before stepping away to serve the 49th Ward. Learned so much there that the experience changed my life, and I will always miss the White Eagle.

Hello! I am helping a family with their genealogy and the great grandfather’s birthplace is written as Roholovice or Rslahovice ?? Unfortunately the document is very difficult to read, and I am having zero luck locating this village or town. I know they were Polish, but according to the records, it was at rhe time under Russian control.

I know this may be a longshot, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

As Wikipedia states:

The Polish White Book is a semi-official name of a series of comprehensive reports published during World War II by the Ministry of Information of the Polish government-in-exile in London, England, dealing with Polish-German relations before and after the 1939 German-Soviet aggression against Poland.

Each publication, released in English, French, German and Polish between 1940 and 1941, consisted of official documents and affidavits, supplemented with an overview by the Ministry.

The Polish White Book was released in parallel with The Black Book of Poland series by G.P. Putnam's Sons of New York, published in London by Hutchinson & Co under a differing title in 1942.

The first volume of the White Book publication series, released in the spring of 1940, was titled Official Documents Concerning Polish-German and Polish-Soviet Relations 1933–1939 – Polish White Book.^\2]) The book described and documented the Polish-German negotiations in the lead-up to World War II.^\3]) The second volume of the White Book – sometimes considered to be the first volume of The Black Book of Poland – was titled German Invasion of Poland (L'Invasion Allemande en Pologne, Paris: Flammarion, 1940).

The third volume of The Polish White Book was titled German Occupation of Poland. Extract of Note Addressed to The Allied and Neutral Powers. (...) The White Book was followed by The Black Book of Poland printed by G.P. Putnam's Sons of New York in 1942. It was a collection of authenticated documents, depositions, eye-witness accounts, and Ministerial summaries, describing and illustrating with photographs, the Nazi crimes against the Polish nation and War crimes in occupied Poland during World War II, committed in a mere two years, including massacres, tortures, expulsions, forced colonization, persecution, destruction of culture, and humiliation of a nation.

Now, I can find the English versions of the first and third volume of the White Books online, as well as the Black Book.

However, I cannot find a copy of the second one. Does anyone know of an online English copy of this White Book, titled German Invasion of Poland?
