Everyone has been so nice here lately
And I'm ready for you all to throw virtual tomatoes at me but this weekend I ended up at El Camino Real and sat on the porch.
I didn't expect to like it or stay for food but we did and the food was much better than I expected and the staff was really nice. Prices were great and the only thing I can really complain about was that it takes a while.
I wouldn't go if I were in a hurry but it was nice on a Saturday afternoon.
Anyway, I would go back definitely especially for the brunch.

Philly restaurants navigating international tipping customs in American tipping
Philly restaurants are bracing for an influx of international tourists who don’t tip like Americans.
Inquirer reporter Henry Savage spoke with local restaurant owners ahead of the 2026 World Cup and America’s 250th anniversary to see whether they will operate as usual or implement service charges to recover crucial tips [🔗 Gift Link].
Mission Taqueria, for example, will implement a 20% service charge during the World Cup to address any shortcomings in the tips department.

Favorite vegetable dishes in Chinatown?
What are your favorite vegetable based dishes and where are you getting them? They don’t have to be meatless but preferably dishes where meat is not the primary ingredient.

National Doughnut Day 2026
National Doughnut Day is this Friday June 5th. Does anyone know any places that don't normally sell doughnuts that will be? I know that Small Oven bakery is. Anywhere else? Or any places doing good deals?

Dining Out Recs Near Oreland for Wedding Anniversary Dinner
My wife and I are going out to dinner on Friday night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We live near Oreland and am willing to travel up to 30 min. Would prefer not to go into the city. We do get out a decent amount and have been to most of the spots in Ambler, Conshy and we're looking for some new or we haven't thought of.
Is there anything new nearby we have to try?!? BYO would be great but not needed. She is not an adventurous eater so types of food is somewhat limited.

Wings
beastwingreviews.comI’ve reviewed about 150 places that serve wings and finally created a website to make the data more accessible to everyone. Let me know what ya think - you can create a simple account no email or PII required and submit your own reviews. Also working on creating the ultimate “wing night” database so if you have any spots that have a wing deal let me know. Beastwingreviews.com

Pizza Center City Personal Lunch Pizza
Looking for a good place for a personal sized (12”) pizza in Center City that I can enjoy at the bar or a table for one at lunchtime. I love Giovaini’s and Paulie Gee’s for counter service and slices, looking for something a little more elevated.

Ricci's on Girard is weak
Decided to try Ricci's today. Got a large roast beef and provolone with lettuce, tomato, mayo and a regular turkey and Cooper with the same. Came out to $28 and had maybe 4-5 slices of meat on the rolls. Complete ripoff.
No idea how they compete with Marinucci's or Primo with higher prices, smaller portions, and nothing to differentiate them from a basic deli.

I made a curated guide to Philly spots for any occasion - looking for honest feedback
I've been working on this for months and kept finding reasons not to share it. Finally putting it out there.
I'm a developer and designer, but more importantly, a Philly resident of 10 years who fell in love with our food scene. So I built Rezza: a curated, visual guide to restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and brunch spots in the city. The idea is simple: when you're planning a date night, catching up with friends, or hosting out-of-towners, you shouldn't have to scroll through 200 Google results hoping one of them has the right vibe. Rezza is built around three things, food, atmosphere, and occasion - because a great night out isn't just about what's on the plate.
It covers more than dinner spots. Cocktail bars, dive bars, morning coffee, brunch, takeout and grab-and-go. If it's a spot worth going to, it belongs on the list. And that's the key thing: it's curated, not exhaustive. There are no star ratings. Everything on Rezza is there because it's genuinely worth your time. I'd rather have 100 great spots than 800 mediocre ones.
You can browse the list or search the map and filter by occasion, neighborhood, cuisine, price range, etc. There's also a Food/Vibe toggle that lets you switch between food photography and atmosphere shots across the whole app- so you can see what the room actually feels like before you go. If you want a quick rundown of all the features, there's an interactive walkthrough built in that covers everything in a few clicks.
I'm also building out a Creator Spotlight section that links to creator review videos from people like JacobDoesPhilly (who gave his blessing to be included). The goal is to layer in trusted local voices alongside the discovery info.
Right now it's a mobile-first web app. User accounts are in progress, and I'm adding more spots daily. I'm one guy building this (and adding each and every spot), so it's early, but I'm proud of where the design and experience are at.
What I'd love from you all:
• What works? What feels useful?
• What's confusing or could be better?
• Any spots you think are missing? (I know there are a lot - and im working on it!)
You can drop feedback right on the site. There are quick ways to share thoughts in the menu and at the bottom of each spot's page. Or just comment here. I want to grow this with the community, not in a vacuum. Nothing more dramatic than that. Appreciate anyone who takes a minute to check it out.

Dining Out Looking for an Amazing Sushi Spot
My wife and I just got back from spending a few weeks in Japan, and I think it may have ruined sushi for us.
The quality of the food was incredible across the board, but the sushi in particular was on another level. What really surprised me was the price. We were routinely paying a fraction of what we'd expect to spend here, often for food that was noticeably better. The most expensive meal we had was at an Omakase in Tokyo that was $67. If you enjoy good food and Japan isn't already on your travel list, book the flights and hotels now! I'm not even joking.
Our anniversary is coming up next month, and I'm looking for a sushi restaurant in the Philly area, either in the city or the suburbs. I'm hoping to find somewhere with excellent sushi, a great atmosphere, and maybe even a nice view if such a place exists. Ideally, I'd like to keep dinner for two under about $150.
Any recommendations?

27F bday dinner for 4 people
Looking for recommendations for where to have my bday dinner on a Friday night. I’m turning 27 and plan to have 3-4 girl friends for dinner somewhere in the city. I’d like a cool atmosphere/vibe and somewhere with good drinks. Bonus points if it’s somewhere we can stay to have drinks after we finish our meal.

A bit of nostalgia -- Wanafrost
who remembers getting off of the escalator in the basement of Wanamaker's and coming face-to-face with the Wanafrost counter? It was soft ice cream. You had your choice of vanilla, chocolate, or (the best) swirl. That's it. No dips, no toppings. Just soft ice cream. Either a cone or a cup. If you're too young or didn't live here -- too bad.
I wish I knew why I woke up thinking about this. It must have been a helluva dream I had.

Opinions on Adobe Cafe?
They are apparently opening a second branch on Dickinson just west of Broad. I'm excited for any new businesses in the area but haven't tried the one off Fitzwater so don't have a point of reference. Any recent reviews?

Best specific* sweet treat / pastry in Fishtown / East Kens / NoLibs area
For example, the Pasteis de Nata is a big hit at Gilda (well deserved).
The Maritozzo is incredible at Fiore (what else should I try there?)
Any other super notable things I need to try in the area when I have a sweet tooth that will blow my mind and fill it with dopamine?
Sincerely, my summer body that never was

Hi everyone,
I was looking into Mawn hours of operations and was wondering if anyone reserved Mawn with the 8:30/8:45 time slot? How does that work? Do they just stay open til you’re done eating?
TIA!!

Dinner recommendations near downtown area ?
Going to be in Philadelphia for the first time this weekend and looking for a good place for dinner on Saturday night. It’s our anniversary so looking for a nice place with good food. We’re only in town for one night to go to the Phillies game and won’t have any formal clothing so nothing too fancy, just something casual and good !
