Advice Needed Low hcg

I got a positive test recently and my doctor said, according to my last period which was around 26th April, my baby is around 5 weeks anf my HCG is too low for that. My HCG right now is 51 IU/L. So is it really bad? I am very concerned and my mind is going in wrong directions. Could you guys help or advice? This is my first pregnancy and is there any way to normalize HCG?

Advice Needed Questions about Pregnancy after taking Metformin

Post image

It’s a positive! I’m so excited & nervous at the same time.

Firstly, My husband and I have been TTC but not super actively since 2025 January, for background I always had pcos, for more than 15 years at this point but only recently found out it’s linked to insulin resistance. It’s been around 6 weeks of being on metformin for me (upped to 1000mg 2 times daily) after being Diagnosed with HOMA- IR of 4.1

I took a tests on consecutive days this past weekend as I was feeling nauseous & tired(I disregarded it for 14 days thinking maybe it’s metformin nausea for sometime & I was also on antibiotics because of UTI around 2 weeks ago!)

I stopped metformin as soon as I saw the first test (my endocrinologist had advised that when prescribing)

Now I’m a bit worried since my appointment with my gynecologist is not for another 3 weeks & I’m not sure how to keep my insulin resistance at bay during pregnancy

Any other people with IR and pregnant? What are you’ll doing to keep your glucose spikes at bay? I don’t have the energy to do a lot of exercise like I was before & also craving more carbs and bland foods. I also grew aversion to salmon and tofu, I’m really frustrated about that!

Also a side question - Both my tests were bright pink lines but one of them turned purplish grey after 2 days, not sure why.. Could it mean something?

High testosterone but other hormonal test are normal

I did my blood test and only have high testosterone but my other blood test are all normal. I don’t have insulin resistance, but I’m gaining weight and having a little hair growing on my chin, my period is irregular, the last time my period came was April and haven’t seen it since but i have started spotting from last two weeks Friday till now. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Can I still get pregnant with this situation.

Venting Not sure how to feel. I’m scared to be excited and scared to retest before the Drs appointment. Looking for advice, words of wisdom or comfort.

Sorry if this ends up being all over the place. I have so many things running through my head and I just need to share them somewhere.

My last “period” was right before Easter. Usually they’re pretty irregular, last anywhere from 7 days to weeks at a time. Mostly heavy bleeding.

Well somehow in April I had only a day or two of very light spotting. I didn’t think anything of it, because even though I’ve changed my diet and have been able to at the very least get most symptoms under control, it’s still sometimes unpredictable.

So around Wednesday I noticed a heighten sense of smell and weird feeling that I needed to eat constantly. Like I had the worst munchies, and I hadn’t changed my diet, taken anything, or been extra active.

I took a test on my lunch break at work and it was a light possible positive, like could have been just bleeding a little. Not noticeable enough to make me certain. Took another one later after work and I was pretty sure it was negative, I couldn’t really make out a second line. I waited and took a digital one the next morning and it point blank said yes+ positive. I was in shock. I’m still in shock.

I am extremely excited but also so nervous. We have been trying to since early 2023. We got a positive text around May of 2023, and experienced a loss I around early July.

So part of me feels like history might repeat itself. I’m so excited and so scared and just don’t want to mess this up. Any advice? Or words or wisdom or just something to ease my mind? Found out Thursday.

I have a Drs Appointment set up on the 4th, but they said it’d probably be too early for an ultrasound. Part of me doesn’t believe it’s happening. I’m sorry for rambling, I don’t really know what I’m looking for here but I just feel too scared to be hopeful half the time and too excited to care the other half. My husband had a really tough time with the last loss and watching me spiral so I’m trying very hard to not show him how scared I am about it all. He’s so excited but I can tell he’s also scared.

Trigger shot success?

I have been diagnosed with pcos since my early teens and am now married and trying to start a family with my husband.
I’ve been seeing a reproductive endocrinologist for the past few months and have started my first cycle of birth control, letrozole, and I’m taking my trigger shot after my husband’s semen analysis came out with very good results and my body has finally produced an 18mm follicle. I just want to know everyone’s success stories with this process but with timed intercourse and how many cycles it took to conceive.

Faint line- need positive vibes

Good morning lovelies!

I am 9 months postpartum and decided to regulate my cycles so I could try to have a baby in september. I came off of BC at the end of April and had some ovulation symptoms that I chocked up to my body trying to regulate. By the title you can tell we werent the most cautious because it took me 3 years of fertility treatment to get pregnant and we also said if it happens, that’s the universe saying it’s meant to be. I really thought it would take a lot more time though!

That said, the digital said positive but the easy@home tests are so faint you‘d believe they were negative based on a photo. Can you share stories of healthy pregnancies that didn’t have dark positives? I’m going to stop testing for my mental health and wait for the blood work I have scheduled.

Positive 38 Week Induction Story - Plus Size, PCOS & GD

Cross posted on [r/PlusSizePregnancy](r/PlusSizePregnancy) and [r/GestationalDiabetes](r/GestationalDiabetes).

My (32F) baby boy was born on 3/19! His due date was 4/1. I had a BMI of 47, PCOS and gestational diabetes. Naturally my memory of events is a little spotty so I wrote this as a play by play to the best of my ability.

PCOS- off birth control for 2 years when we started TTC and after 18 months of trying, learned I wasn’t ovulating regularly. I got on letrazole and was pregnant after about 4-5 cycles.

Plus size/ high BMI- I brought up at my very first OB appointment and was told to expect a big baby, induction at 39 weeks, and early gestational diabetes testing. I was also offered anatomy scan at a high risk/ maternal fetal medicine/ perinatal office because they had “equipment that worked better for plus size bodies.”

Gestational diabetes- diagnosed at 30 weeks pregnant. My fasting numbers were always high and difficult to control. I was put on Metformin for a couple weeks then insulin for the 2 weeks leading up to birth. Because my fasting numbers were regularly over 95, they suggested induction at 38 weeks. My understanding was that the risks were mostly for my baby’s blood sugar since my fasting numbers were hard to control.

The day I hit 38 weeks, we were scheduled for induction at 9pm. We checked in and paid up front (very strange, “all payment due at time of service” so we literally paid thousands of dollars at the front desk when we checked in…) I got my first dose of cytotec at about 10pm, and then another at 2am and 6am. Contractions started around 9am the next morning.

In terms of pain: The IV placement really sucked. It took them 3 tries. Contractions also really sucked.

I asked for pain management after 3 hours of worsening contractions. I have a low pain tolerance and I knew going into it that I would ask for it when I needed it. I got IV pain medication (fentanyl) for the placement of a foley balloon to help with dilation. The foley balloon got me to 3-4ish cm dilation in 45 minutes.

Around 1pm, I got the epidural. It was placed during peak contraction pain so the placement of the epidural didn’t phase me at all. It brought pain relief within 30 minutes. The pain literally melted away. I am so happy I got an epidural.

I didn’t like having so many tubes attached to me. At one point I had an internal monitor placed to measure contractions, and to measure my baby’s heart rate internally. I also had the catheter, epidural and IV. The epidural immobilized me a little bit but I could still maneuver in the bed. The epidural lowered my blood pressure and the baby “didn’t like” that, so I was given ephedrine.

I had to maneuver in the bed when baby’s heart rate began decelerating after contractions. My legs were completely numb but movable. They complimented my ability to rotate in the bed when they asked. I was on all fours for quite awhile while they searched for the baby’s heartbeat on the outside of my belly. The tubes made this even harder. They had trouble finding his heart rate through my belly. I knew this was because of my size. I acknowledged this and the midwife agreed it was a factor.

Because of the decelerations and inability to find his heart rate, they placed the internal monitor, deceleration continued and they suggested a C section. Non emergent, but unplanned. They wiped me down, gave me Zofran and NSAIDs, my husband got into the scrubs. We waited for the doctor to arrive. While waiting, I sat up in the bed in a slightly elevated way, and my baby’s heart rate went completely normal. He was no longer in jeopardy. Seemingly because my position was no longer causing him distress. At 6pm, they said the C section wasn’t necessary.

Throughout the hours of decelerations, position changes, and possible C section, I wasn’t scared. I trusted the professionals, and remained calm. My husband and I are both pretty calm in crisis.

By 8pm my baby was born vaginally, weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces, pink and crying, with perfect blood sugar. I pushed for about 20 minutes. Some surprises:, other than him being so small as a GD baby, he had a very short umbilical cord (less than a foot) and a velamentous cord insertion. Neither of these things were detected via ultrasound while pregnant. These were notable and surprising!

They offered a full golden hour but about 20 mins after he was born I vomited, so our time was interrupted. After that, the adrenaline caught up to me and I fell asleep immediately. I commented that it was similar to the feeling immediately after a car accident. But it faded quickly and the bliss took over.

Hoping and wishing the best for all pregnant folx out there! Thanks for reading!

Longer cycles and date tracking?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi! I’m a 27F with PCOS and I’ve been on 1000mg Metformin XR since August 2025, which helped me to lose about 30lbs. I am still at a relatively high BMI (partially bc I am 5 feet tall with DD cups) but have been feeling so much better physically and my cycles have regulated to about 38 days average length, which my OBGYN was happy with.

I started my last period April 14 and my husband and I decided to “casually” try after that cycle, assuming nothing would happen the first time since my cycles have always been so strange; I didn’t even know if I was ovulating. Imagine my surprise when my period didn’t arrive by May 21 and the ClearBlue test was Positive!

I called my OB and they scheduled me for an 8 week appointment on June 9.

This is my first time ever having a positive, and I used to not be certain if I even wanted kids, so I feel pretty in the dark and have been doing as much research as feels responsible without stressing myself out too much. I know the miscarriage rates for PCOS aren’t happy and I don’t want to stress about what I can’t really control.

That being said, I’m pretty confused about how the date tracking works if your cycle isn’t 28 days. I’ve done multiple different online calculators and some of them say I’m 6 weeks exactly today, while others say I’m only 4w5d?? I’ve been having a pretty good range of symptoms for a couple of weeks, but I don’t have any morning sickness yet, and I’m worried that I won’t be “8 weeks” along when I go in for this scan. Does anyone have experience with this and does it even really matter in the interim before I go to my doctor?

Picture of the FOUR different positive tests I took when I first tested, bc I’m still in complete joyful disbelief that I somehow got pregnant on my first try?!

Breastfeeding and Inositol

Is it safe to take inositol while breastfeeding? Has anybody done that and seen positive results? I love breastfeeding for my baby’s sake, but it isn’t easy on me. My supply is fine, it’s my mental and emotional state that sucks. I haven’t lost any weight, my sugar cravings are out of control and I feel like I am in a constant state of PMS. My poor husband takes the brunt of my grumpiness. Can anyone relate? Any advice would be appreciated.

13 dpo, BFN, first round of letrozole, month 8

Coming here to just let it out to the only group of people that understand how it feel. Successfully ovulated on letrozole, timed everything so perfectly, strong pdg rise, and nothing but negative tests. Month 8 of trying. 😢😢😢 just needed to vent. I just want to cry, kick, and scream. Meanwhile drug addicts are running around high with 10 kids in foster care. It’s so unfair.

Is there hope?

I took a test today at 11dpo/11dpiui and it was stark negative. I don’t know when the tears started rolling 😫
This is my second iui and was really hoping it works. Has anyone tested negative on 11 dpo and had a positive afterwards? Thanks

Letrozole worked

My first Letrozole cycle (and Ovidrel trigger) worked! I had a chemical a few months ago, likely chromosomal since I'm late 30's. I took 5mg CD3-7 with monitoring US.
I'm 16 days post trigger and I've been tracking line progressions the last few days. HCG drawn this morning, awaiting result. This community has been such a resource for me in this TTC era that can feel so consuming at times. I'm guarded, and processing this with cautious optimism. But I wanted to share. I wasn't sure what to expect with Letrozole. I actually never got a positive LH strip, I triggered off my mature follicle via US.

PCOS symptoms during/post pregnancy?

I am 31, and was diagnosed with lean PCOS back in high school (~15 years ago). I’ve always struggled with body / facial acne and hair growth and while they never went away they really did significantly improve while I was on hormonal BC. For me that was a game changer. I went off the pill last February (over a year ago), and since then have really struggled with the symptoms presenting themselves much more prominently than I was used to while on it. To think that we were told acne goes away when we grow up!

After 1.5 years of TTC I finally just got a positive test! While very early, my brain is rushing to many what ifs, and I am curious as to what experience others have had as it relates to their PCOS symptoms during and post pregnancy. With so many hormones in play, I’m worried that things will be far worse than I’m used to. For some folks, I know many symptoms improve post pregnancy as hormones somewhat rebalance. That would be nice!

Would love any input if you can relate. Thanks :)

Inositol changed my life

Just wanted to share my experience of how I got pregnant with PCOS. I had TTC for 2 years when we went down the IVF route. I was 32 at the time. We both had all normal test results pre-IVF appointment. During our first appointment I was talking about my periods/general health and suddenly realised I might have PCOS. The big tip off was that I had gotten a continuous glucose monitor and, one day after eating a salad with two burger patties (no bun, no ketchup, no carbs at all) my blood sugar went above 9mmol/L. My fasting was sometimes as high as 6.1mmol/L. My fertility specialist started me on inositol, twice a day. We continued TTC but sadly we weren't successful, but we did get incredibly lucky with our first round of IVF. I'm currently 17 weeks. I've included a couple of screenshots of my current glucose monitor, the first is today - I had fruit and yoghurt about two hours ago, and then some eggs, hummus and coffee with milk about half an hour ago. My blood sugar has barely budged. This would NEVER have happened before I started treatment. The second picture is a few days ago. I was really tired and had to sit down all day, plus I attended a catered event that forgot to cater for me so I was eating ultra processed snack foods all day. I would say that *just* inositol is not enough for me, personally, as you can see my blood sugar swinging. But it is still way better than it was! I also make an effort to eat my fibre first and carbs last, I eat high protein, and I make a huge effort to move after I eat (even just standing and taking clothes off the line makes a difference - as long as I'm not sitting down). It took me ages to figure out what worked for me. Jessie Inchauspé, The Glucose Goddess, has loads of helpful tips that I follow! I honestly don't think I'd be here without actively managing my insulin resistance. We live with such a complex condition, I sincerely hope that you all figure out what works for you as well 🙏🏻

Happy 5 weeks - excited but incredibly anxious

Post image

I’m 33F and mom to a 2.5 yr old son. It didn’t take us very long to conceive, and I also had a relatively easy pregnancy. My husband and I started trying again last September after our kiddo turned 2.

Mid November 2025 I met with the fertility doctor bc I hadn’t had a period since pregnancy (nursed until May 2025). He ordered blood work for both me and my husband, as well as sperm analysis for my husband. Got prescribed Provera to induce a period. Didn’t work. Then Estradiol AND Provera. Still no period. Got very light spotting mid-January, contacted my doctor but was told it didn’t count as a period so I couldn’t do an HSG yet. I chose to stop taking Provera and Estradiol though bc it was just making me too tired that I couldn’t muster up the energy to have sex! Got an appt with my doc March 10 where he confirmed I have PCOS, and coincidentally I started my period that day. Since I got my period, they scheduled me for an HSG March 17. Got that done and told my tubes are open. Started taking metformin.

Got my next period April 10. Had an appt at the fertility clinic with the nurse team, April 20, where they did an ultrasound of my uterus and ovaries. Prescribed a cycle of Letrozole (5mg) starting that day. Also based on the nurse team’s recommendations, added vitamin D, myo-inositol, and coenzyme Q10 supplements. Also started drinking pomegranate juice every morning lol. Scheduled for another ultrasound the next week, April 27, to see how my follicles are doing. Took the Ovidrel trigger shot April 28, IUI April 30, progesterone blood test May 7 to confirm ovulation, and then hCG test yesterday, May 14 to confirm pregnancy.

So blood test confirmed I’m pregnant, but even then I peed on 3 of these little sticks bc I just couldn’t believe it 😩 I’ve been crying because I am so happy and excited, but also feeling so anxious and scared for what could possibly go wrong. Next appt is May 28 with the infertility clinic before they clear me to start prenatal care with my regular OB.

Anyone else similar situation to me? I just feel like I had only been actively trying for 6-7 months and aware of my PCOS diagnosis since March. It just makes me feel like I don’t deserve this happiness? Gahh what’s wrong with me 😭

I (f30) was diagnosed 13 years ago with PCOS.

After a year without any signs of ovulation after coming off 11 years of birth control, I finally got my period back at the end of 2025 and was able to track ovulation through BBT (I think thanks to inositol). Now, 5 cycles later, I got to share this with my husband on Father’s Day 🥹

I tested yesterday, I think it was 13 DPO. My first ever positive. I hope this little one will stick, even though the line seems very light 💖
