I watched a short documentary on this man. He takes in kids who have been abandoned by their families due to their terminal illnesses and disabilities. He is a true saint. He gives love and warmth to these vulnerable children who have no one else to love them.

I don’t want to be the guy who distracts from a heartwarming story, but I would more than happily support the death penalty for any family who abandons a terminally ill child, because what the fuck did I just read?

I can understand your sentiment, but those people would just neglect them, then. It is truly horrible, though.

Neighbor... if they have more than one child, they are in a horrible situation. And sometimes there just is no good way out of a bad situation, but that doesn't necessarily make you some kind of monster.

... Many American families cannot afford the first of care for a gravely ill child. Other cannot afford to have an adult so working to care full-time for a gravely ill child.

Children in foster care get Medicaid.

Because a lot of the time? It's literally the only way those kids can get any sort of medical care.

He is OOO for sure but I hate that 90% of things on r/mademesmile just make me so sad and angry.

I completely agree. I don't think this makes me smile at all, but I felt like he deserves OOO in a big way.

I cannot recommend enough how good it is for your mental health to mute BS subs like that.

I doubly admire him because I don't think I could handle seeing kid after kid after kid dying.

I know it's a part of life and none of us gets out of this alive, but I think it would crush me a little.

I also would struggle with tracking down the families with a handy crowbar.

Perhaps he is able to take solace knowing that he gave those children the love and care that they may never have experienced from their own families, so that they do not leave this world without knowing gentle kindness. Plus, no time to track down the family if there's another child to take care of.

Not to diminish Omar, but I think we need to change this to the Order of Mohamed. What an amazing person.

This reminds of something my youngest child did.

We had a cat that was sick, but because of life & that he preferred to be outdoors, we didn't realize this until too late. (I remember picking him up, & being surprised he was so light, but our cat was medium-haired so I didn't think anything of it at the time.)

Our youngest, who was nine at the time, found our cat lying outside with flies around him, obviously dying. He brought the poor thing in & held the cat in his lap for his last hours of life.

We've had some issues with the kid -- both before & since -- but I will remain proud of the fact he did that. I've tried to tell him that, only he doesn't understand.
