University Desperately need advice. I HATE MYSELFFFFF. Mac vs. OTU vs. UofT vs. TMU?

Ik reading this caption probably felt ridiculous and ik I’m going to get clowned, but I genuinely had a very hard time in my final years to get my grades up and to manage everything in my own time. I have 6 offers currently. I want to pursue the medical field and become a physician, go to medical school etc. that’s the end goal!!
I don’t know what to do. If I go to McMaster, I’ll have to take the stem courses somehow on the side?? I don’t even think I can get the opportunity to switch first year. Is that possible to do it like first semester switch? And does that go for UofT as well? I really really wanted to get into UTM for forensic sciences/life sci I got rejected obviously, but I think a big part of this was because I did not submit my chemistry grade until two days ago to my universities. Ik that is very stupid from my end and I got rejected obviously from Waterloo and rejected from every other program I applied to at McMaster, UofT, UTM, Guelph, Waterloo, etc.

I am very disheartened, but I don’t know what to do because medicine is something I was genuinely passionate about, but I’ve had a lot of personal challenges this year that have delayed me from being able to complete my chemistry midterms in due time. I’m incredibly scared and overwhelmed for my future and any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated. I can see myself taking the stem courses needed for first year at McMaster alongside my humanities courses, but I don’t know how that would work in regard to this. At the end of the day, I’m scared that I won’t have a high enough GPA but also what others will think in regards to how prestigious the university I attend is in my family is all counting on me to make sure that I go to the right place. It’s just difficult because I know that this could’ve had a different outcome had the universities seen my prerequisite and it’s a very big deal obviously otherwise you’ll get rejected.

Offers: McMaster University (Humanities), University of Toronto Scarborough (Social Sciences & Humanities), Ontario Tech University (Kinesiology, Medical Laboratory Sciences — really like this but it’s hella far, and Health Sciences), and Toronto Metropolitan University (Biomedical Sciences — waitlisted).

Any advice? Please send help lol 😭

I think it comes down to where YOU think you will succeed in. Med will ofc first look at gpa— if you’re in a program that requires heavy load and pressure that you know you can’t handle, it’s better to go with the easier option. They don’t care where u do ur undergrad, so if you truly want to pursue med, then choose where gpa is easy to raise, good EC opportunities, and a healthy environment to keep you motivated. At the end of the day, it’s not about prestige with this pathway, it’s your willingness to persevere and be ready to take on any challenge. That’s my two cents, wishing you the best ^^

thank you, this is so true. I think I’m just scared of making the wrong decision now and that I won’t succeed. Like I know, McMaster would obviously be the better choice to some regard, but it’s not direct in terms of the undergraduate that I would be pursuing. I want to switch my undergraduate! I would have to take the stem courses along with the humanities, full courseload. Lol truly lost rn but when there’s a will, there’s a way.

I understand that. I think if your goal is to eventually switch in Mac, and you’re confident in maintaining the pre reqs in doing so, then definitely go for it. It’s good to research ahead quickly just to be concrete. But, don’t demoralize yourself if you think another program would be better — if you work hard, it will pay off at some point. Don’t let others dictate what you want to do either, look into your options, make a pros and cons list, and confidently decide for yourself. I struggled with this as well when I couldn’t get into my top choice, but understanding that, like you said, ‘if there’s a will, there’s a way’ motivates me to give my 200% in any pathway that I choose. Don’t let yourself drown in regrets, you can do anything you set your heart on :)

Thank you, I really appreciate this. You’re right, I think I just need to focus on making the most out of whatever path I choose instead of stressing over “what ifs.” It’s reassuring hearing that from someone who’s been through it. I still go back to the decision and seeing what I can do to make the most out of this now I believe on June 3 there is an opportunity where I can reapply to some programs if they have any availability in space but then again my brain goes, “what if it doesn’t work out”

Since you’ve been through it, I truly do hope to everyone that reads this that they truly give their all to their program as a privilege to be there, and it is a privilege to be able to be accepted regardless! Thank you for making me realize the importance of staying close to core values. 🙏🏼

Of course! Hopefully, those programs do have space, but don’t be sad if it doesn’t work out. Make the best of your situation and just remind yourself that you can do this! Wishing you the best :))

I hope so! Will definitely work as hard as I can. Thank you once again, wishing you success in your endeavours! :)

i would say tmu if u weren't wailisted but go to mac. u can def either do internal transfer or just take electives/med school pre reqs alongside humanities. otech is too far and commuting or res doesn't seem too worth it ngl. uoft is good but mac is better it seems like u want to transfer programs anyway and mac is good for sciences
