He was very respectful.

PSA: don’t leave anything food-related or even scented in your vehicles in bear territory. They will come for things like toothpaste and deodorant. And most will bust windows and not use the handle like this gentlebear did.

Around Asheville, the bears have learned to open car doors with the handle. I have to lock my door in my own dang driveway to keep the bears out of it. They'll try the handle and open the door even without food, because they've been trained to expect food.

They're also breaking into houses, including one on my own street. The state wildlife department killed 6 bears in Buncombe Co last month because they were dangerous and causing damage.

The overlap between a smart bear and a dumb human is large and disappointing .

That’s unfortunate and sad.

Sounds like Haw Creek?

There are bears all over WNC, but the bears in East Asheville are on another level.

You wouldn't be posting this if it was a white bear

that bear's got better manners than most people renting u-hauls. using the door instead of smashing through is honestly impressive. but yeah this is why you never leave anything edible in your vehicle in bear country, and i mean anything - they'll rip apart a van for a granola bar or some chapstick. the real move is keep your car clean and locked, store food in bear canisters if you're camping, and just accept that bears are smarter than we give them credit for.

Bears aren’t dumb, but the person that left food in the van with the door unlocked is. Every time this happens it increases the odds of a bear and human encounter.

Take it easy, he’s just helping unload the van.

Look, the bear just wanted to get his lunch. It was tired from moving all day.

Exactly, I didn't see a bear breaking into a U haul. I saw a bear taking a break, grabbing his lunch, and being filmed by a KAREN!

Got to lock the doors! If they get trapped inside they will destroy the interior

Every year bears get smarter and smarter. Soon they'll be taking our jobs!

A bear once opened a car door to get a peanut butter sandwich only the door closed and the bear then completely destroyed the interior trying to get out
