North Carolina officer fired after video shows him repeatedly punching woman during arrest

https://abc11.com/post/shelby-police-officer-beats-woman-identified-cherrie-moore-viral-doorbell-camera-video-shows-cop-fired-nc-pd/19202574/

This motherfucker of a cop needs to be in jail for punching this woman repeatedly EVEN AFTER his colleague told him to stop. Some people are just too evil.. and stupid.

They oughta release that officer's name. He deserves to carry that reputation with him publicly whether the SBI charges him or not.

If they can put people's name and mugshot in the paper before they are proven guilty, they can name a publicly paid official who was fired for assaulting someone.

Yeah what was the point of hiding his name? Are they nuts? If they had an ounce of integrity I'd be sure they'd do it.

But they're crooks, and this police chief should be put in prison for just firing the cop after putting him in admin leave. Like that's just such a ridiculous punishment, like as in NOT GOOD ENOUGH

u/irondethimpreza 1d ago

The point of hiding it is so he can get hired in a new department in three months. Rinse. Repeat.

u/Clean-Turnip5971 1d ago

That would be Cleveland County, but yeah agreed.

Sorry for that error:) I meant Shelby City, edited

It's the police unions. They need to be outlawed.

16

u/wookiedberry 1d ago

Can you imagine if other professions had the same power as the police unions? As an educator, it would be a game changer.

u/felldestroyed 1d ago

Whelp, lucky for you, they are outlawed in North Carolina. Have been since the 1940s. You're referencing the good ole' boy network. Good luck enforcing anything when Republicans have most of the seats.

This is not correct.

I made a throwaway so I can comment on this. I actually live in Shelby and have for years. Your comment is a complete misrepresentation of the community. A majority of Shelby’s city council is progressive and the mayor is as well. Logic would dictate that someone has to be voting for them.

Secondly there has not been a single person I have talked to in town over the past weekend who didn’t think that the actions of that police officer are disgusting and disgraceful and I have talked with folks of all political creeds.

It might just be possible that there are processes in place for these kinds of things that everyone has to follow based on legal obligations and there isn’t some grand conspiracy like you seem to think. So before you make sweeping accusations against an entire community. Do your research.

Edited my comment. Apologies. You are right, however some of my original points still stand.

You held me accountable and I appreciate it. I'm probably overreacting but I was fuming. I'm just hoping that cop is put in prison, that'd be enough for me. Hopefully the police chief learned his lesson, hopefully. If he takes his time and then the government doesn't hold him and that cop accountable, progressive, Republican I don't care, they should be all held accountable.

Thank you for changing the comment. We here are all hopeful that the SBI investigation comes back with charges for him.

They have. I saw a post on Facebook earlier with his name and photo. I don't remember what news channel, but it wasn't a rumor, it was an official report.

Of course it's spelled with a K. Grew up one county over with his kind.

7

u/Clean-Turnip5971 1d ago

I'd be interested to see it if you can find it.

13

u/carrie_m730 1d ago

Someone else already did although to be fair it's The North Carolina Beat, so not a traditional newspaper like I thought, and since it's them I don't know after all if the police officially released the name or they got it through other means.

I have always said that this type of shit would become much rarer if cops had their addresses publicly listed like everyone else.

Yep. Name and shame is the way.

The woman's uncle, Michael Moore, told WSOC that watching the footage was devastating.

"You can only imagine how I feel to see my niece bodyslammed to the ground at 90 pounds," he said.

The firing came after the Shelby Police Department completed an administrative investigation into the incident, Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser announced Saturday. The officer had previously been placed on administrative suspension.

The findings of the investigation have also been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for an independent review of any criminal violations, the chief said.

PUT THE GODDAMN DUDE IN MOTHERFUCKING JAIL CHIEF! what the hell is wrong with you?

Police unions.

I'm normally pro-Union but there are some which are corrupt.

13

u/felldestroyed 1d ago

Public unions are outlawed in NC. This is the good ole boy network.

4

u/FlavivsAetivs NC/SC Demilitarized Zone 1d ago

Fair enough, but the FOP in NC functionally fulfills a similar purpose. And this is a nationwide problem.

5

u/Tower-Junkie 1d ago

I could tell she was little, but only 90 fucking pounds and he’s punching the fuck out of her like that??? What a punk ass little bitch. It’s probably the only time in his life he’s felt like a big man.

Internal investigations are usually required to be turned over to the SBI. When an officer is read their Garity rights during an Internal Affairs (IA) investigation, one of those rights is “the contents or findings of this investigation cannot be used for criminal prosecution”. Chief did exactly what I’m sure their policy was and sent the incident to the SBI.

Now that he’s been formally charged and bonded out, I see people complaining about that. The 8th amendment prevents bond from being used as punishment. Also bonds are required to view several factors when setting it. Criminal history, flight risk, anchors to the area, etc. Those are then used to determine what a maximum and minimum bond can be. The charge was a misdemeanor, so 10,000 is probably on the higher end of that spectrum.

Everything in the justice system has been processing along according to constitutional rights, policies and procedures. Being upset and outraged over this incident is completely acceptable, but the justice system is proceeding along as normal.

At the end of it all, I doubt he will spend much time at all if any in jail. Probation will probably be the extent followed by the civil suit against the city. Little to no criminal record committing a misdemeanor wouldn’t get a normal person jail time.

Shelby....hometown of Kenny Powers... a racist redneck shithole of the worst kind. White cop beating a black woman.

Sad, but not at all surprising.

23

u/Cy_098 1d ago

Exactly. The police chief is a disgrace. Any one with a brain with some common sense would lock this cop up. But of course it's just he fired him and referred his case to the SBI. It's criminal, it's ridiculous. Part of me thinks this cop was racist because why else why would he punch her multiple times even after told to stop - people will hate me for bringing up racism but ultimately this is the society we're living in nowadays. It's not normal for a cop and a police chief to act like this was some act.. he should have condemned and ruthlessly been charged for what he did.

14

u/RueMcClanahansPenis 1d ago

he's a cop, there's a 100% certainty he's tuned up plenty of white women the same way; they just might not have been suspects or on camera at the time

6

u/fuckin-A-ok 1d ago

Doubt it. White "girls" are human to him.

8

u/generalsleephenson 1d ago

Doubt it. All women are beneath them. Even their female counterparts.

10

u/RueMcClanahansPenis 1d ago

google 40% of police

3

u/Remote_Nectarine9659 1d ago

You’re gonna need to provide proof of that statement, because cops proven to be violent do not get the benefit of the doubt.

6

u/Buckethead16 1d ago

Half the buildings in the town have Tim Moore’s name on them so expect nothing less

28

u/Regulardumbguy 1d ago edited 1d ago

Cops are allowed to get confused and commit violence against you in the heat of the moment. They'll get no charges. But if you use violence? Extra special charges for hurting an extra special wittle guy

6

u/sladebm 1d ago

He forgot to say “stop resisting” for the camera before the beating started.

They always just get fired. Never prosecuted for crimes. Qualified immunity needs to end

4

u/Cy_098 1d ago

Yeah. Especially in these kinds of places, there's almost zero accountability. Fire them, do more 'investigating' then maybe potential jail time. It's a corrupt system

If I was the chief I'd:

Fire immediately without suspending to begin with < lock him up and question his ass to see why he thought that was a good idea < refer him to SBI without releasing him < sue him depending on outcome while still keeping him in jail

This guy chose to skip the jail route because maybe he thought he needed some rest.. ill just fire ya and see what SBI says before I lock you up. Ridiculous

Why is it taking longer for them to decide if this video evidence of him hitting a woman is is enough to arrest him than it did for the police to decide to arrest her?

If my neighbor shows a clip of me beating the bricks off them the cops don't take the video home to think about it. They arrest for probable cause.

This won't stop until we make it stop.

1

u/Rittermeister 1d ago

Generally speaking, the police are authorized to use "pain compliance" to make you do what they want. There's a good chance he'll get off. I'm not justifying or supporting it, just pointing out that if you won't let them cuff you, they can hit you until you do.

5

u/Jiggle_Tester 1d ago

Put him on camera, isn’t that what they do with most people that commit crimes? Two laws one for the people and one for the powerful …

8

u/postpizza_depression Be the Change 1d ago

Need to know info: was he reported by the other cop, or only disciplined bc the doorbell video came out/ because the woman and family complained?

If it's the latter, the other cop needs to be fired as well and the entire department investigated.

17

u/BunkerDawg 1d ago

Well. NC kinda hates women right now so that’s not too surprising.

10

u/Lordnoallah 1d ago

He must be part of the SBC. They're back to beating the no female leaders in church drum again🙄

7

u/PM_ME_YOUR_HOT_DEERS 1d ago

the fact that his partner told him to stop and he kept going is the worst part. firing him is a start but yeah this needs to go to criminal court. can't just let that slide because he wore a badge.

0

u/awhq 1d ago

I think the worst part is his partner didn't MAKE HIM stop. I'm glad he did something but just telling him to stop over and over isn't right.

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_HOT_DEERS 22h ago

you're right, telling him to stop and then just standing there watching is its own problem. partner could've physically stepped in or called it in right then instead of just asking nicely.

3

u/ronweasleisourking 1d ago

Jailed, surely...cops protecting their own though I guess

3

u/SignificantBerry8591 1d ago

This cop will just move to another town and get the same job all o er again

3

u/spreadred 1d ago

He will be with another law enforcement organization shortly, no doubt

4

u/backseatfucking 1d ago

big brave man cop beating the shit out of a petite black women obviously experiencing a mental health crisis. enough is enough. we need actual accountability for violent cops

2

u/jonandgrey 1d ago

This happened in SHELBY, NC for those who don't want to click the link.

2

u/Mysterious-World-997 1d ago

Now criminally prosecute him and the victim needs to file a civil suit. There is no qualified immunity for this.

2

u/ascenionnexus 1d ago

How many others?

2

u/Middle_Cow_1200 1h ago

So many cops beat women. Usually their partners

2

u/icnoevil 1d ago

That is assault on female. He should be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

2

u/ExtraordinaryBS 1d ago

He’ll be hired at another city next week, and we as tax payers will foot the bill for the settlement and the “cop” will learn nothing. Then we’ll have more “training” and a larger police budget. ACAB.

1

u/bigbankmanman 15h ago

Getting fired is the bare minimum here.

If an ordinary person was caught on video doing this, nobody would be debating whether charges should follow.

1

u/After-KangarooO 6h ago

That former officer can get fucked

Prison time? Prosecution? Hello?
