The woman's uncle, Michael Moore, told WSOC that watching the footage was devastating.
"You can only imagine how I feel to see my niece bodyslammed to the ground at 90 pounds," he said.
The firing came after the Shelby Police Department completed an administrative investigation into the incident, Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser announced Saturday. The officer had previously been placed on administrative suspension.
The findings of the investigation have also been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for an independent review of any criminal violations, the chief said.
PUT THE GODDAMN DUDE IN MOTHERFUCKING JAIL CHIEF! what the hell is wrong with you?

Police unions.
I'm normally pro-Union but there are some which are corrupt.

Public unions are outlawed in NC. This is the good ole boy network.

Fair enough, but the FOP in NC functionally fulfills a similar purpose. And this is a nationwide problem.

I could tell she was little, but only 90 fucking pounds and he’s punching the fuck out of her like that??? What a punk ass little bitch. It’s probably the only time in his life he’s felt like a big man.

Internal investigations are usually required to be turned over to the SBI. When an officer is read their Garity rights during an Internal Affairs (IA) investigation, one of those rights is “the contents or findings of this investigation cannot be used for criminal prosecution”. Chief did exactly what I’m sure their policy was and sent the incident to the SBI.
Now that he’s been formally charged and bonded out, I see people complaining about that. The 8th amendment prevents bond from being used as punishment. Also bonds are required to view several factors when setting it. Criminal history, flight risk, anchors to the area, etc. Those are then used to determine what a maximum and minimum bond can be. The charge was a misdemeanor, so 10,000 is probably on the higher end of that spectrum.
Everything in the justice system has been processing along according to constitutional rights, policies and procedures. Being upset and outraged over this incident is completely acceptable, but the justice system is proceeding along as normal.
At the end of it all, I doubt he will spend much time at all if any in jail. Probation will probably be the extent followed by the civil suit against the city. Little to no criminal record committing a misdemeanor wouldn’t get a normal person jail time.

Shelby....hometown of Kenny Powers... a racist redneck shithole of the worst kind. White cop beating a black woman.
Sad, but not at all surprising.

Exactly. The police chief is a disgrace. Any one with a brain with some common sense would lock this cop up. But of course it's just he fired him and referred his case to the SBI. It's criminal, it's ridiculous. Part of me thinks this cop was racist because why else why would he punch her multiple times even after told to stop - people will hate me for bringing up racism but ultimately this is the society we're living in nowadays. It's not normal for a cop and a police chief to act like this was some act.. he should have condemned and ruthlessly been charged for what he did.

he's a cop, there's a 100% certainty he's tuned up plenty of white women the same way; they just might not have been suspects or on camera at the time

Doubt it. White "girls" are human to him.

You’re gonna need to provide proof of that statement, because cops proven to be violent do not get the benefit of the doubt.

Half the buildings in the town have Tim Moore’s name on them so expect nothing less

Cops are allowed to get confused and commit violence against you in the heat of the moment. They'll get no charges. But if you use violence? Extra special charges for hurting an extra special wittle guy

They always just get fired. Never prosecuted for crimes. Qualified immunity needs to end

u/Cy_098 1d ago
Yeah. Especially in these kinds of places, there's almost zero accountability. Fire them, do more 'investigating' then maybe potential jail time. It's a corrupt system
If I was the chief I'd:
Fire immediately without suspending to begin with < lock him up and question his ass to see why he thought that was a good idea < refer him to SBI without releasing him < sue him depending on outcome while still keeping him in jail
This guy chose to skip the jail route because maybe he thought he needed some rest.. ill just fire ya and see what SBI says before I lock you up. Ridiculous

Why is it taking longer for them to decide if this video evidence of him hitting a woman is is enough to arrest him than it did for the police to decide to arrest her?
If my neighbor shows a clip of me beating the bricks off them the cops don't take the video home to think about it. They arrest for probable cause.
This won't stop until we make it stop.

Generally speaking, the police are authorized to use "pain compliance" to make you do what they want. There's a good chance he'll get off. I'm not justifying or supporting it, just pointing out that if you won't let them cuff you, they can hit you until you do.

Put him on camera, isn’t that what they do with most people that commit crimes? Two laws one for the people and one for the powerful …

Need to know info: was he reported by the other cop, or only disciplined bc the doorbell video came out/ because the woman and family complained?
If it's the latter, the other cop needs to be fired as well and the entire department investigated.

Well. NC kinda hates women right now so that’s not too surprising.

the fact that his partner told him to stop and he kept going is the worst part. firing him is a start but yeah this needs to go to criminal court. can't just let that slide because he wore a badge.

u/awhq 1d ago
I think the worst part is his partner didn't MAKE HIM stop. I'm glad he did something but just telling him to stop over and over isn't right.

u/PM_ME_YOUR_HOT_DEERS 22h ago
you're right, telling him to stop and then just standing there watching is its own problem. partner could've physically stepped in or called it in right then instead of just asking nicely.

Now criminally prosecute him and the victim needs to file a civil suit. There is no qualified immunity for this.

That is assault on female. He should be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

He’ll be hired at another city next week, and we as tax payers will foot the bill for the settlement and the “cop” will learn nothing. Then we’ll have more “training” and a larger police budget. ACAB.

Getting fired is the bare minimum here.
If an ordinary person was caught on video doing this, nobody would be debating whether charges should follow.

They oughta release that officer's name. He deserves to carry that reputation with him publicly whether the SBI charges him or not.
If they can put people's name and mugshot in the paper before they are proven guilty, they can name a publicly paid official who was fired for assaulting someone.
