I'm getting ads for Nissan replacement parts for lurking this sub, if it goes to full on vehicle ads I'm gonna have to stop

A real Nissan driver uses zip ties and duct tape. And if really really needed , parts from Alibaba.

50mpg in the camry LE ffs, that's fucking insane.

It's cannibalizing Prius sales btw, which is hilarious.

No. This isn't simply going to "go away". It's like the assholes that live forever.... They will probably keep cranking these shitboxes out until the end of our existence.

Nissan transmissions are notoriously bad.

We know.

Most of us do. I admit I didn’t before I purchase my 2017 Sentra. I drove two long trips a month for work. Going to my northern trip during the winter was awful as I drove through the mountains heading south from Flagstaff. On one trip up, my transmission failed in the morning. When I said failed, it was more like my car could only handle lower gears. I hobbled to my meeting and arrived nearly two hours late. We had that trash towed to the dealer and they fixed it. We all know that when any repair happens on a drive train, the vehicle is never the same. I got out of that car and purchased a Kia Soul (yeah, I know now). I put nearly 65k miles on it in 3-years. My youngest son still drives it to school and work. Now, I own a Ford Maverick hybrid. It has a lot more power than I expected and gives me a little bed to haul shit. I average about 48 MPG between September and May. It drops down to just below 40 in those summer months.

Mine has 156k and still pushing 🤷🏾‍♀️

u/They_Beat_Me Dec 16 '25

Is it easier pushing it downhill?

6

u/alecexo Dec 16 '25

It’s easier pushing it through your house

Yeah, I can imagine getting upstairs would be draining.

Because you used original Nissan fluid or a good quality non-oem one. If you use cheap fluid, it causes the rollers in the CVT to have problems.

My car is fine but the last owner put cheap ass fluid in it. It burned and cooked the rollers in the CVT, causing it to slip and grind itself.

They junked the car and I bought it for $950. Never had any problems.

Mine has done the slipping thing like once or twice. Nothing recent though. I haven’t changed the fluid since I got it (I’ve had it for 1.5 years now) because every time I ask a mechanic to check or do a drain and fill they refuse, saying if I don’t know the maintenance history, a flush or drain and fill could kill it immediately. So idk. We’ll see if she conks out or not but as for right now she’s still going strong.

You should just do a drain and fill, no flush. You'll be perfectly fine. Within 20k miles is the interval I think.

Make sure to use real Nissan fluid or Idemitsu fluid, that's the only one with the right fluid weight.

You’re saying within 20k miles but I’ve put 15k on since I got the car and i have no idea when the previous owner did the flush 😭

You'll be ok, but you also need to have them replace the fluid filter. That's absolutely critical. Fluid burns and sticks, the filter catches it.

When they flush the transmission, they run diesel through it, which is kinda bad for the transmission. I mean, it won't kill it, but personally I just do drain and fills on mine.

You're fine, don't worry. Just make sure it's genuine Nissan CVT fluid and that they replace the filter.

My car lasted 170k under the previous owner with factory fluid lol. And they put the wrong fluid in it and it shit itself. I got a new transmission, filled it with Nissan fluid, and never had problems again.

I can send you a PDF on how it works/why it's important if you want, Nissan USA has a few!

Cvts yes lol but back in the day had a titan with a 5 speed auto and handled all the abuse and towing I needed it to handle but the mpg was terrible

The toroid cvts are actually stronger than a chain-drive CVT, but only if you use the right fluid.

Nissan and Denko co-developed the X-Troid CVT over about 10 years, supposedly it was peak engineering at the time.

But a lot of people put regular ATF or cheap ass aftermarket fluid in them despite the big warning stickers. Or they don't put fluid in em at all.

Which causes the rollers to slip and basically fuck the transmission over.

2008 ALTIMA HOLD ON TILL I CAN REPLACE YOU

So a base model is $28k? That seems like a lot.

3

u/AncientNarwhal69 Dec 16 '25

yeah but you can finance it like crazy with awful credit cuz it’s nissan so it’s still gonna sell 🫩

3

u/AndyW037 Dec 16 '25

I can't wait to see the financing "offers" on this pile.

Can get a nice used G70 with decent miles for that, which will be the next G37/sideshow car, mark my words. It's the perfect storm of depreciation and performance
