Marriage certificate mending in Vancouver
Hello !
We're a recent married couple in BC (living in Vancouver, married here too). We're both permanent residents here.
While doing a bunch of paperwork to make our wedding recognized by our county of origin (France), we discovered that my husband's dad's name got misspelled on the full certificate
Not really serious but we need to change the spelling
To do so they say we need someone "who took the oath" to certify our demand, but we're confused by who to turn to
The website mentions Service BC , but the one listed in Vancouver does not mention this particular service
We are lost around that, are we supposed to consult a lawyer ? But what type of lawyer ? Or could Service Canada help ?
Very sorry to be so ignorant, it's not quite easy as immigrants to navigate the administrative system
Thank you for your help :)

I think they mean a notary public is a person who took the oath but they could also mean doctors and other professionals

Updating/correcting myself! It is a lawyer, notary public, court registry clerks or government agents, some police, stuff like that. You swear the info and provide whatever proof you have (though you often can just swear, on just your word), you sign and the official signs and stamps/certifies/ whatever they call it

Thank you for your answer !
Government agent can be found at Service Canada or im completely wrong ?
Otherwise i'll try to find a notary, its a bit of a process because obviously our proof are french papers, not Canadian documents (birth certificate that is)

You can search notaries by language on the BC Notaries Association website: https://www.bcnotaryassociation.ca/find/

You just need to get him to go to Service Canada and you will have to pay for the license again and they will process it all

They will need to go to ServiceBC, not ServiceCanada. Marriage certificates are provincial, not federal.
