First time I’ve noticed this on Northumberland Street
“Cutlery Clocks” anyone know what this building used to be? The windows are wonderful.

You should always look up when you walk around a town / city, particularly a beautiful city like ours. That’s where the history is 😊

Totally agree since I’ve been walking into work I actually take the time to appreciate it.

Had a Google and it was Summerfield jewellers 'for 60 years' though it didnt state from which years
Edit: it was a 'Vodafone shop for a number of years but was vacant as of 2018' so I'd guess it was established as a jewellers roughly around the 50s.

The only reason I knew this was here is because its a pokestop on pokemon go. I don't think I ever would have noticed it otherwise.

In my first year of uni the course arranged a 'scavenger hunt' around the city which had loads of the architectural stuff that you barely notice day to day on it. This was one of them. Since then I do actively try to look up and take notice of this kind of thing when walking around a city

If you’re still on Facebook I’d recommend a group called “Newcastle Upon Tyne Buildings & Architects”, it’s an enthusiasts group for stuff like this. People on there know a lot and often share historic photos. This one has definitely come up on there before!
