Pre Match Pre-Match Thread | New Mexico United v Hartford Athletic | May 30, 2026 5:00 PM Mountain

New Mexico United travels this weekend to Hartford, Connecticut. They say that Hartford Has it; whatever "it" is.

Right now Hartford Athletic sits at 7th place in the East. They are coming off of a 2-0 loss Tulsa, and will be looking to get back on track. The last time New Mexico and Hartford played was on July 30th of last year, when we lost 4-0 to them. Strangely we had ~70% of the possession in that match, and yet didn't put a single ball into the net. 12 of Hartford's players from last year stayed around for 2026, however we won't see Samuel Careaga because he got a red card last week against Tulsa.

Let's not repeat the 2025 performance.

Last week New Mexico defeated Charleston Battery (6th place in the East) 1-0. Which was a good result after the match before that. Saturday's match will be a good test for United.

The Ref for this match will be Matt Thompson. He was the 2021 PRO USL ref of the year. The last time United saw him was last year during our visit to Lexington. This season, across all men's competitions(USLC/1/Cup & USOC), in eight matches he has show yellows 28 times, pointed to the spot once and has shown one straight red.

What are you exceptions for this match? Are you attending in person or going to a watch party?

I think we fan leave Connecticut with all 3 points. We played well against Tampa Bay, we just couldn't find the back of the net. We got a deserved win against Charleston, and likely could have scored a few more. Those were two teams that really tested us and I think we came out a little above even in those games.

Yup. I checked the dates (you posted on the Discord) before making my image.

On paper we’re pretty even steven with Hartford but I got this feeling from the past few games we’ve been building on something and the season is only gonna get better from here. Fuck I better not’ve jinxed it

I'm feeling the same. I'm hoping the inconsistency of the first part of the season was mostly down to injuries and having to shuffle around so much, particularly the back line.
