Text Ax211 to BE200: has anyone tried it?

At this point im just curious if its possible. There are conflicting reports all over the place about this. I have a z790 maximus hero and have the ax211 module.

While the modules look physically swappable the real question is whether the slot is PCIe + USB or CNVio2-only. If its PCIe + USB the BE200 will likely enumerate, from what i have read. Opposite if its CNVio-2 only.

If I get any kind of confirmation that the BE200 is viable, I'll likely pickup a Intel BE200NGW module and give it a go.

Let me know what you guys think. Would really like to get wifi7 and potentially MLO on my z790

Unless you've got a RUCKUS R770 on your ceiling, MLO does not work on most consumer routers. It also runs at the speed of the lowest band. See: https://www.wiisfi.com/#wifi7
ASUS is notorious for being anti-consumer, there is probably some nasty bios whitelist. Hence why you are asking instead of just buying the card. It's definitely a higher chance with ASUS that you have to get a completely separate PCI-E card because of a motherboard quirk.

My opinion is, don't bother. Wifi7 is a pretty huge disappointment for the price. If you have an extreme amount of 5ghz interference and need 6ghz (defeating the use case of MLO), piles of extra money just sitting around and cannot use an ethernet cable, go for it.

No, no neither piles of money nor lack of ethernet use are examples of what I have going on. Literally curiosity. Ive seen posts are the webz of people potentially trying this module swap but never any confirmation of it actually working. My mobo had a 6e module and it does the job but the potential for wifi7 is intriguing to me on a purely experimental level.

from what ive seen the biggest issue is exactly the cnvio2 vs pcie thing, not the physical swap itself. honestly feels like one of those “might boot, might not even detect” situations unless somebody already tested that exact board combo
