General Discussion Jakob & Ola inexplicably gone

I’m not saying a team of writers can all be Vince Gilligan. But how irresponsible is this team of writers? They include both characters in the naming of Joy. They have a heartfelt back and forth about how the baby will help them grow together. The show devotes so much time to them both.

And then the characters are let go off screen. What in the hell was that ? I can’t believe these writers get paid for a living. Season 4 sucks and pretty much ruins the whole show

Jakob, Ola, Lily, Rahim, Mr. Hendricks and Mrs. Sands! They all really developed in the 3rd season, and we got to learn more about each, only for the writers to completely wipe them out in the final season. Never seen a show remove half of the core characters with no mention. Very disappointing.

I’m still salty about Rahim. I loved his dynamic with Adam.

Colin and Emily appeared once in Season 4, and we did get to learn about what they’d done since Moordale closed. But yeah, even if they couldn’t get the actors back, they could’ve at least established that Adam keeps in touch with Ola and Rahim.

It was great to see Adam making some friends other than Eric in season 3, I would have loved if we got to see those friendships continue to develop in season 4.

Honestly, Jakob was one of the best characters on the show and his quiet, grounded nature was the perfect counterweight to Jean’s chaotic energy, so when he and Ola were suddenly written out, the show completely lost its heart instead of actually resolving the emotional fallout of the baby not being his.

I heard of allegations against his actor, but they intended for him not to be the father even when he was still part of the cast in Season 3. And they probably could’ve recast him either way, given how good the show is at casting lookalike actors.

You’re preaching to the choir! Erasing Jakob and Ola off-screen after the emotional payoff of naming the baby was a total slap in the face to the audience. It’s hard to stay invested in a show when the writers treat major character arcs like they were just filler. Season 4 felt like a reboot no one asked for.

Jakob literally said "I'm not your father but I'm not going anywhere" to Otis.

Which he then immediately followed up by saying "And now I must go to the store for a pack of smokes." You might have missed that part of the scene.

Or maybe I just forgot. I don't know.

The actor who plays Jakob was accused of sexual harrassment in the off season.

When was this vis a vis season 3's filming? It seems based on the S3 E8 cliffhanger like the decision to make them not a part of S4 was determined well before the gap between the seasons

The allegations of sexual harassment came way before the show even started. I am surprised Netflix casted him without even doing a background check or research.

thats no reason to remove the charicter though. he could be recast or pushed into the background a bit and only seen in passing

This is a delusional take.

No its not lol. Loads of actors have been written off shows with off screen explanations. They could have easily said “they had a huge fight” or “Ola got accepted into a fancy school far away and Jakob moved with her after finding out Joy wasnt his”

There was literally a huge number of possibilities. Especially since they hinted that he might not be the father in Jeans reaction to the paternity test.

We don't have an official confirmation but Jakob was probably cut because the actor was accused of sexual harassment.

The actress of Ola choose to not be in season four.

season 4 was an absolute dumpster fire. 1) Otis. all his growth and maturity went out the window the moment he found out someone else had a clinic on campus. the way he reacted didn’t seem like the same otis that just talked hope down in the hospital a couple months prior. 2) the school. are we really supposed to believe a school like this exists? 3) way too many new characters introduced into a final season. we didn’t have enough time to know them to truly empathize with them. 4) the one beautiful moment - colin’s performance was cut short by jackson’s ball sack which ended up being a story leading nowhere? 5) eric saw jesus? ok..

Another reason why the show should have just ended after S3. I hate what it became.

Idk why they thought it was a good idea to introduce new characters instead of bringing them back….i would’ve definitely preferred the OG characters for sure.

"They didn't even show Olivia, Anwar just said they joined another school." Worse!! Ruby tells Otis later on that they don't hang out with her anymore. That was her entire arc in S3!! Opening up to Otis led her to open up to Olivia and Anwar. And then they dump her? That's not good writing. Don't get me started on Steve. Aimee ending up with Isaac when Steve was perfect for her annoys me to this day

I do wish the child would’ve been Jakobs child but bein that he had a vasectomy we knew it would be a possibility he wasn’t but idk i thought they would still make it work and he would be around to help raise the child even if it wasn’t his but was disappointing when they just got cut out of season 4 like that and when they wanted to tear down the tree house that he built.
