Need Advice Emotionally preparing for my ends to be cut

I’ve had suchhh a tumultuous relationship with my natural hair. I’ve been wearing box braids since I was 5 years old and I depended on them out of insecurity of my own hair. I only started seeing a problem when I switched to knotless 3 years ago and started experiencing horrible breakage. I went to crochet for a while which helped but the breaking point was this past fall when I get a half cornrow half knotless in the back which completely destroyed my hair. I decided in December I was gonna wear my natural hair out but honestly it’s been hard. I’ve been away at college so I haven’t been able to see my hair stylist and I’ve just been neglecting my hair, slicking it back into buns with pounds of gel for my fast food job. Now that I’m back home I just see my hair is sooo unhealthy and I wish I could’ve just excepted myself for what I was when I had thick shorter type 4 hair 😭. I scheduled an appointment with my hair stylists and I’m gonna ask for a trim and just by looking at my ends I know it’s gonna be a lot. I honestly just wanna get my hair back healthy again but I have nooo idea how to 😭

What’s your current routine? How often do you wash and what do you do on wash days? How do you maintain your hair throughout the week? Building a wash and styling routine that you can stick to is the first step towards length retention (hair is always growing, it’s keeping the length thats the aim of the game).

I’m also college age and I’ll advise you that you don’t necessarily need a bunch of products or super expensive products to get great results for your hair styles. Learning to care for your hair takes time and don’t feel bad about not having all the skills you might want immediately.
