Discussion Boruto should have been something like this
Boruto should have been about the return of the Uzumaki Clan.
Naruto actually succeeded. The Fourth Great Ninja War ended, the nations cooperated, and true peace slowly spread across the world. Over time, the role of shinobi diminished. Ninja arts became more ceremonial, competitive, and specialized rather than instruments of war.
But the world was built on a lie.
The Uzumaki Clan was never destroyed.
Decades before the founding of the hidden villages, a faction of the Uzumaki began using their legendary sealing techniques to capture and enslave demons from the Demon Lands. Their goal was simple: create power greater than the Tailed Beasts and establish Uzumaki supremacy over the world.
When the other nations discovered the truth, they united against them. The clan was defeated, sealed away in the Demon Lands, and erased from history. The few Uzumaki who opposed their clan's ambitions helped carry out the sealing and swore never to reveal the truth.
Naruto only ever knew part of the story.
Now the seal is weakening.
The first sign isn't a massive invasion. It's silence.
Naruto disappears.
Sasuke disappears.
Killer B disappears.
The strongest shinobi in the world are suddenly gone.
In reality, elite Uzumaki infiltrators have entered the great nations and used ancient sealing techniques to imprison them before anyone even realizes what is happening.
The balance of power collapses overnight.
Old rivalries return. Some nations blame each other. Some secretly ally with the returning Uzumaki. Others try to exploit the chaos for their own gain.
For the first time in decades, the world stands on the brink of another shinobi war.
Boruto is forced to grow up fast.
No alien gods. No inherited superpowers that instantly solve every problem.
Just a young shinobi living in a world that no longer knows how to fight a real war.
Together with Sarada, Mitsuki, Shikadai, Himawari, and a new generation of ninja, Boruto must uncover the truth behind the Uzumaki Clan, master the forgotten arts of shinobi warfare, rescue the sealed heroes of the previous generation, and stop an enemy that has spent generations preparing for its return.
The story comes full circle:
Naruto fought to end the cycle of hatred.
Boruto must prevent the world from starting it again.

Nah, it would take a lot of work, not to mention that the Uzumaki, instead of this nonsense, would have to be portrayed as Cruel and Powerful Conquerors, more than just a Clan—a Conquering and Expansionist Empire that sees the Shinobi and other people of the continent as inferior beings undeserving of life. And the whole Village thing is outdated, and they see Naruto as a guide. In this story, Naruto should be the main protagonist, as his legacy is being attacked, showing that Kushina actually had a flawed vision. That would have also been an interesting conflict: the legacy and being different from them, creating your own legacy and heritage.
But honestly, no... I would have been better off leaving Naruto in Chapter 699, showing him as Hokage, and that's it. The Uzumaki never were and never were relevant, since, as I said, it would require a lot of explanation and justification.
Personally, I would prefer a Naruto reboot, where there is more freedom for more things.

Naruto fans give infinitely more of a shit about the Uzumaki Clan and Uzushio than Kishimoto ever has or ever will

This would been it. Especially if the kidnapper shinobi abilities where stolen. Basically copies not as good as the orginal

Yeah that would be cool too. I think Boruto had a lot of potential that got wasted. The answer wasn't to go deep into super Saiyan mode but to use it as a reset and go back to more basic ninja skills. Also everyone wants to know what happened to the Uzumaki clan. Win win. Naruto doesn't have to be an absent father due to his own fault. Boruto can shine without overshadowing and neutering his father's power. Naruto's dream for the shinobi world doesn't have to be a failure. The tailed beasts don't have to be weak. It would just correct a lot of things in that went wrong in my opinion.

I'm of the opinion that Boruto never should have been Naruto's son. He should have been his grandson, or better, great-grandson. Given them a connection, but a distant one. The first season should have been about Naruto's coming passing from old age, about the fact that this one man had held the world together for decades, and now that security was about to be gone.
With Naruto gone, Kurama could have volunteered to make Boruto the jinchuuriki, thereby flipping the OG Naruto script. You have a Kurama that wants to work together, wants to hold Naruto's peace together, but a Boruto who doesn't want anything to do with him.
Sasuke's Rinnegan should have been a closely kept Uchiha treasure. An endgame thing for Sarada.
You could have had whatever foe Boruto was going to have to deal with now, be one that already lost to Sasuke and Naruto, but now they were gone.
That way, you get flashbacks of Sasuke and Naruto being awesome, giving OG Naruto fans what they want, seeing their two guys kick ass, train Genin teams, without having to nerf them and get them out of the way.
Just my thought.
