If we fire Payten, games like this are the prime reason.
We should be in the top 4 this week. Instead we will be 9th because we missed 60 tackles +.

My notes:
11 errors from our backs
Left edge is not firing.
Why is McIntyre being told to sit out on the wing?
Team selection was wrong to deal with Raiders unorthodox style and lateral speed. Lodge should have never have started at lock. I would have started Hess on at left edge with McIntyre at lock, Lodge off the bench pushing Taumalolo to lock and make JT play minimum 60minutes with Kerrisk coming on pushing Mahoney to lock to cover JTs break.

Hess can't play on an edge. We persisted with that for way too long a couple years ago. It'll be even worse now after his ACL injury.
God knows why McIntyre was out on the wing a couple times. There were a couple times we shifted & it ended up with him & it just killed the attack.

People saying he's not the reason for missed tackles are partially right. They are the ones missing the tackles, correct, but its his same awful defensive systems putting them in position to miss tackles.
Having mcintyre on the wing repeatedly, purdue dropping back like he's the wing, the rush in defense etc. Just because they were good for two weeks doesn't meant they magically learnt overnight. We will never win a premiership with him. Ever. Get him out now.
Purdue was fucking awful again.

You know we were going to beaten after the first set of the match. No one wanted to tackle, the players reverted back to grabbing or hold on and letting them run taking easy metres. I just don’t understand how we can come out with that mindset seems to appear every few weeks.

They may as well have not gotten off the bus.
Yes it would have been miserable/cold conditions down there but they needed to bite down on the mouth guard and put their shoulders into it in D. Pretty obvious from the first set in D they were off with the fairies.

I was there and yes it was miserable and cold. Cows weren't great, but next week is another game.

He’s not the one missing the tackles bro, and it wasn’t a system issue as they were in position to make the tackles.
I’m not saying he’s the one to lead us to the promised land, but missed tackles ain’t him

For the whole team to be trash is strange. It's not unusual for us to be like that either. It happens too much. I can understand 1, 2, or even 3 players being off in a game but this is pretty much team wide.
There must be an issue with preparation.

I’m worried for our attack next year, we’ve no creativity outside of Drinkwater. This was still winnable for a large portion.

I think we’ve seen enough creativity from Dearden, and flashes from JT13, Chester and on occasion Purdue to be ok. Defense is much more concerning.
Tommy won player of the series in Origin and for Australia with different coaching direction… he’ll be totally fine

Tbf we are missing our 2nd best half (Clifford obv our best 😂😂) and our best second rower.
Drinkwater is a flat track bully hence why he will be a waste of money for the dragons

So is Purdue which is why he'll be a waste of money at the cows next season

Ouch! I hope you're wrong but he will have to step up in a big way to justify his contract.

Peyton really has to stop telling players to not put in effort and miss 60 tackles.
Also, Cows are 5th if you take out the moronic points for byes. No professional competition on the planet has three teams on 6-5 above a team on 8-5.

Only idiots cant figure out how bye points work. Are you an idiot?

u/Tunza Northern Pride 1d ago
lol. Don't clown yourself child. I can count. But mathematical ability doesnt excuse the moronic awarding of points to teams for not playing.
Here's a little history lesson for your smoothe little brain. Bye points were used in English competitions (various sports) over 100 years ago to compensate teams who did not play as many total games in a season as other teams. Adopting that for a competition where all teams play 24 games is moronic - much like your post.
Sit down. Be quiet.

Our defense has been terrible for the entire time he has been here. There has been zero improvement. If they offer him a new contract they need their heads examined.

Not true the prelim final year they were elite defensively. But other than that it’s been a dogs breakfast

At this point you’re almost giving Chester or Purdue a crack at the fullback spot. Our defence was horrible but for all of drinkys flaws once he walks out at the end of the year so does all our attack. If he doesn’t fire we look absolutely useless

Theres room for improvement provided they work on the correct things they can be better, on the brightside burns and luke should be back next week so hopefully that offers something. Its kinda crap cows and storm have 2 wait til r15 for the first bye but hopefully the back end of season byes serve the team well

Just don't understand Todd. They give him an extension and he immediately won't smile again and totally shit the bed.
No extension should be given unless he can at LEAST smile once. Never seen someone so pissed off all the time.

Unless Billy slater gets sick of Melbourne and yearns for the humidity of the north. Payten is our best option but short deal only please. I can’t commit to another 5-6 no shows a year

What's the appeal of Billy? He puts together a squad of players in good form. If it's based on origin performances as a coach, the same would go for Laurie Daley being considered for coach

u/Beavius 1d ago
Is this the same Billy Slater that had a 1 sub left to use and had a legitimate centre on the bench but decided to throw Kurt Capewell to the backline wolves after keeping a behemoth in Olakau'atu quiet for 57mins and got duly carved??
Or the same Slater that picked absolute spuds in Nikora and Loiero??
Miss me with this shit that he's this supposed 2nd coming of Craig Bellamy

How likely 13 blokes showed up on the day and were like what do you want to do today mate… fuck I think we will miss 60+ tackles this week.
Or how likely that week of prep was poor, or the game plan was off or the messaging was wrong which then set those 13 players up to miss 60+ tackles

We're one of two teams that haven't had a bye when there are plenty of teams who've had two. If we can muster up a decent performance next week and go into the bye on a win we'll be absolutely golden at the back end of the year when our byes come in.
But don't let that detract from the fact that every time we can show up and beat a team in absolutely rubbish form to claim a top four spot we totally bottle it. Remember the eels game? It's our destiny to finish 5th and get knocked out in the second week of the finals.
