News Irish politicians try to avoid talking about the Alumina issue, but Coalan puts them on the spot

What a shame on Ireland and Europe to have politicians like this. These people would sell even their mothers for Ru**an money.

Indeed!
Placing profits ahead of Principles and Patriotism

Yeah but at the same time, what a great thing we have young, independent journalists like Caolan constantly digging up their dirt and questioning them on it, showing to the world exactly what the established media largely fails to do.

Alumina is used in making ceramics for armour plating in both body armour and armoured vehicles. They can also be used to produce dual purpose parts such as ceramic bearings, spark plug housings, basically anything that requires heat resistance and/or hardness.

Good thing the Russians aren’t using ceramic armour plates in their issues body armour then, if the cunts issue it at all.

I must say. Niall Collins does the "politician" bit perfectly.
I work with people so I am used to avoiding answering questions directly and it is an art.
And he does it masterfully.
And for the record: It is NOT OK to have Russian owned alumina plants exporting materials to Russia.
Even though... I am not sure how the markets are.

An update semi-recently, not shocked.
"But in the first quarter of 2026, 83% of Ireland's alumina exports went to Russia, according to figures obtained by the Irish Times. This amounts to 200,619 tons, the largest exports since the outbreak of the full-scale war in 2022.
In contrast, only 0.6% (143 tons) of alumina exports went to EU countries, and the remaining 40,000 tons were shipped to countries outside the EU.."

Disgusting. Being Irish-born I often feel that hypocrisy comes second nature to Irish foreign politics.
It's always "standing up for the little guy", like Palestine, but when it's Ukraine and Russia, "ehh who cares, we can make some $$$ from selling to war criminals. Just not Israeli war criminals!!!1!!1"
I'm not trying to say they should be cosy with Israel, I mean they need to kick Russia to the curb.

This one needs to be shared more, especially in irish communities

That man sounds like he was trained by Kremlin propagandists. Those are the exact same scummy non-answers you get from Russian politicians - variations on a theme of "it's not my problem, I don't know anything"

How ironic that Irish politicians are perfectly fine with occupation and genocide of a people considered inferior to their occupiers.
Almost as though they would be fine with themselves being occupied and genocided

If this was an Israeli-owned plant, you bet they'd have shut it down years ago, no matter how profitable it was.

Great work from this journalist! Irish fellas, can you write to your TDs and make some noise?

For a local perspective (I'm from Limerick), Naill Collins is a TD for the current government party Fianna Fáil. FF are currently very unpopular with their primary base in rural Ireland (mainly due to high fuel costs). This Alumina plant is a big employer in the area, which is in a rural area. Sanctions would affect jobs, which would in turn affect Niall Collins keeping his job in the next election.
So just like other contentious politics in Ireland at the moment (eg. The Occupied Territories Act to officially boycott Israel), FF is "all talk." They'll say they support Ukraine, but when it actually comes down to sacrificing something, ie. Jobs and votes, they'll hum and haw but not take any meaningful action.

Wow. Didn’t know. Kinda depressing. Makes me wonder id there’s more of these russian companies in europe without sanctions..

He likes having a lot of donations to help stay elected and keep his current job and has a nice spot lined up being an advisor or consultant for them afterwards.

I wish there was a bit more background about this journalist.
Do i agree with his sentiment and stories that illustrate Russia's crimes, crapulance and corruption, for sure. Do i agree with his reporting and stance on Ukraine, absolutely.
However he has appeared from no where, has good (read expensive production values), has a seemingly significant amount of money to travel extensively and constantly across Europe and Ukraine whilst getting access to some very high profile people.
He is young but very polished.
Ultimately my spider sense is going off a little. What is his story, and who is backing him (he has no in channel adverts, nor does he push a patron), or if there are no backers then how is he doing all this?

Just f ing Google his name then and dont spend 10 minutes writing an essay on ooh he who is this guy hes suspicious. He's a very good honest journalist

10 minutes, maybe 50 seconds. Jeez if you think everyone is as slow as you, how long did it take you to write a single sentence?
His a young bloke that has really good access and large amounts of funds. Its sus even if i do agree with his message and content.
Having worked with journalists that sort of access doesn't just happen because you speak truth to power.
And to be absolutely clear i fully support a free Ukraine and the NATO alliance.

He is* not His Yet you called me slow. All I am suggesting is you do even a tiny amount of research of the guy your calling "sus" before you comment online and say things like he came out of no where, he has been around quite a while actually and is just very honest, that being said, I would say he may be working with Ukraine hence the access and travel

Let's ignore for a moment that you can find this information, what difference would it make? Surely it's about the content.
You've got to verify most reports, but the history of the person reporting it doesn't change that, surely?
