My Little Pony avoids this by giving Spike terrible spotlight episodes.

Despite that Discord is still one of the more popular characters. Hell id even argue that Rainbow Dash gets consistently bad episodes too

He was my favorite back when he was Q. (Actually, my headcanon is that Discord _is_ Q. When he gets bored of antagonizing Starfleet he switches universes and messes with the ponies.)

Just need an Artanis and Nova ponies (as de Lancie also voiced Alarak from StarCraft II) to add to this mess.

And shouldn't the Data pony be the one commenting on Pinkie? XD

From a Doylist perspective: the writer of MLP explicitly said that Discord was written as a send-up of Q, and the actor who played Q (John de Lancie) also voiced Discord.
