My Little Pony avoids this by giving Spike terrible spotlight episodes.

Despite that Discord is still one of the more popular characters. Hell id even argue that Rainbow Dash gets consistently bad episodes too

He was my favorite back when he was Q. (Actually, my headcanon is that Discord _is_ Q. When he gets bored of antagonizing Starfleet he switches universes and messes with the ponies.)

From a Doylist perspective: the writer of MLP explicitly said that Discord was written as a send-up of Q, and the actor who played Q (John de Lancie) also voiced Discord.

Dash has some good ones but I think she consistently has the most questionable episodes even more so then other characters

really? havent given the whole show much a watch in years and i was such a fan of hers growingup maybe biase is clouding my memory lol, would you mind giving me examples? because the only episodes that really come to mind rn are the ones centered around her pet turtle, which tended to be some pretty good episodes imo, especially the one with her coping with "loss" when he has to hibernate in winter.

My Spike hate stems from them doing a multi episode set up for the Pony Games or whatever it was and then the actual games was an episode about Spike having fire anxiety. It was BAD
