Question Clingmans dome to Hwy 441

In Oct I am walking Clingmans dome to Hwy 441. I can use my Smokys parking pass to park at Clingmans. Or that's the way I understand it. Due to time I have to get off at Hwy 441. I can not seen to find overnight parking that is not a long walk away from the trailhead on the hwy.

Have any of you guys done this hike? If so, did you leave your car over night somewhere that I do not see (very possible)? Or do I need to just secure a shuttle. the only issue there is timing with the shuttle.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Based off your response to the other comment-

Are you hiking the MST or the AT to 441?

If the MST, park your car at Mingus Mill and get a shuttle up to Kuwohi (formerly Clingmans Dome). Then, enjoy the ~27 mile hike back to your car.

If the AT, park at Newfound Gap and get a shuttle.

Your Smokies Parking Pass has you covered at either place. I typically leave a note on the dash with an estimated return if gone for a few days. Also, unless you're doing it as a day hike, you'll also need to reserve a campsite.

HI, I am walking segment 1 of the MST.

I think shuttling up to Kuwohi is the direction I am leaning.

I picked up the permit for camping already (just 1 night), and we have the parking pass. So, I am covered there.

Thanks again for all the help.

Traveling Lite Shuttle and Resupply is a great option for shuttling. I used him for the hike you’re talking about plus a couple more segments.

Oops- I forgot to check which sub this is and just assumed this was the AT. You’re absolutely right, Mingus Mill is the place to park if you’re doing the MST.

Just park your car at Newfound Gap, then have someone shuttle you to the trailhead. Easiest solution IMO.
