Discussion Trophy-property ranches hit the market as more heirs choose to sell

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/29/luxury-real-estate-ranch-montana-wyoming-california.html

The so-called “Yellowstone” effect remains in full force, with fans of the Paramount show seeking sprawling properties in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and other Western states.

...

These legacy ranches can demand a premium for reasons other than acreage, he said. Many historic ranches, like another one of his listings, Red Hills Ranch (Outside Jackson Wy), a 190-acre property asking for $65 million, are surrounded by public lands that cannot be developed. Buyers are drawn to that privacy, as well as the ability to hike and fish nearby and see wildlife up close.

Ugh, it's just continuing. More wealthy out of stater's coming here to buy up lands adjacent to "public" land, then blocking access so they can use the "public" areas as private.

This really needs to be addressed somehow.

It's almost like our local aristocracy feel more kinship with their fellow national aristocracy than they do to their fellow Montanans.

We would all do well to keep that in mind. If you have friends willing to sell out our people, well, they shouldn't be your friends anymore.

She/he said if your fence backs up to public land then you have more rights to that land than anyone else. Loud and clear at the debate. We still voted that traitor in. Montanans care more about the R behind your name than the hunting, hiking, camping grounds they love.

To be fair, a lot of people voting in Montana these days aren’t even Montanans. Montana used to be purple. The onslaught of yellow-bellied republicans from other states who moved here with some kind of Yellowstone ranch dream and will throw their weight behind anything with an R on it are absolutely an influencing factor too.

Hahaha public lands can’t be developed. Hilarious. The GOP is doing everything they can to sell them now.

The enemy isn’t people wanting to buy hobby ranches, the enemy is the CRAZY discrepancy of wealth in this country now that enables 0.5%ers to become ungodly wealthy and afford $50M second, third or fourth properties.

We used to tax these people, in the 1950-70’s. Reagan and Clinton convinced us to stop, and here we are.

Get mad at the reasons behind the things, not the things.

Maybe we should allow development of public lands, that way these private oasis won't be so private any more? That'll show 'em....
