Looking for Advice How to transition out of a healbot and get into diamond
I've come back to this game since basically when the hero level update came out. Before when I played I always considered moira to be my easy swap. The best I ever got was plat 5. Moira was the one I switched to when I was having a hard game because it was easy for me. Kind of like reaper or soldier on DPS, at least on the lower ranks.
Anyway I just got back into the game and started getting some big results with Moira. Ive just placed into plat 3 basically one tricking moira and it's been fun. I like the stats tbf but also fade is just so fun that I'm wondering if I can one trick moira into diamond at least just to a hit a new pr yk?
Anyway I've felt really scared these last few games getting into plat and I noticed I heal bot a lot. I'm still getting high kills like I'll have on average just about if not more than DPS and honestly good damage for moira as well but It feels fake. Back when I played I just DPS moira with healing orb and in unranked and gold it worked. Now I'm not dueling anyone. I right behind my tank and heal bot him while occasionally turn around to heal my DPS and just poke at the opposing tank.
Most of my damage comes from constantly beaming the enemy tank and my kills aren't from duels as I've been reading I'm supposed to do, it's just from beaming random people. The problem is I'm not flanking I'm literally sitting behind my tank all game. I'm scared to use damage orb unless we're absolutely winning the fight. Genuinely I feel like I can't peak or do anything without binge insta beamed. I'm always snapping directions around to heal teammates when they are critical. Sure it's winning games now but it won't eventually. I feel like a mercy healbot because I feel as if the only way we win team fights is when I'm constantly healing
My question is how do I provide value DPS wise and positioning wise that will help my team so I don't have to healbot. In hold especially I feel like as a support if you keep your team up you'll win because people don't really know value yet they just kind of kill whoever in from of them.

Yeah, Moira is all about taking an off angle to do damage without straying too far to a) heal your team when needed and b) get out safely. Heal in between doing damage, not the other way around. Use walls so your orbs get as much use as possible. Hold down right click 24/7 until you need to switch. Moira is so adaptable to whatever the match needs, look for the gaps (creating space, finishing off kills, more healing if needed) etc.

just recently got to m4 with her, you gotta take a lot of risks but know when to take them. it’s gonna feel like you’re throwing a couple times, but there’s no other way to have good impact with her. you have to pressure them from angles your team isn’t already doing so, but time it right so everyone doesn’t fall over from your lack of heals. obviously that’s gonna be dependent on who your other support picks, but i’ve been forcing moira in every single type of support comp and it can definitely work. i’d recommend watching moira gameplay videos from ppl like Arx. i watched a moira unranked to GM video, and my main takeaway from that vid was to use damage orbs a lot more than your heal orbs. Use heal when your team ABSOLUTELY requires it, or when you need it. otherwise, damage orb will probably have a lot more value.

one more thing: there should be very little time when you’re not doing healing or damage. if there is, use it to reposition yourself.

I solo queued to masters as Moira OTP a few seasons ago. It may be different now that they've done the healing reduction thing...idk, I mostly play stadium now.
To be aggressive as Moira, you need to have good map sense. Always pick extended fade major perk. You can flank them and then fade back to cover or health packs. It's much better to use health packs than to use heal orb on yourself, that way you can use your orb offensively.
Moira is good at cleaning up easy kills. You can fade in and kill anyone who's at critical health, but you need to avoid overextending especially if they have hard counters like Cass or Hog. You can also harass/1v1 squishier targets like Widow, Genji, and Tracer. There are actually very few characters that I consider a favourable 1v1 for Moira at the moment, so be careful if you're planning to go in alone. It doesn't hurt to pocket a teammate if they're good enough to deserve it.
Never use all your cooldowns at once UNLESS you are going to die or your team is going to lose the team fight. You always need something available to save your ass. That means if you have ult, you can play a little more aggressively. It's more or less an "Oh shit" button, except it won't save your ass 100% of the time like Zen or Lucio ult.

A good tip a lot of moira players don't know is that your heal has a heal overtime component to it. Most of the time holding spray at someone won't give much benefit. You can actually just puff heal at people and let the heal overtime portion do the healing for you, this will actually free up some time for you to do DPS and as other mentionned add some pressure. You can even preemptively puff heal at people so that they get healed overtime if they take damage during the 3 second window. On the other side, if a teamate is critical and still taking damage then full spray is a better choice to save them since it does more healing.
Puffing also consummes a lot less ressource which gives you a lot more uptime on heal since you don't NEED to do damage to replenish your healing ressource. Switching between little heal puffs here and there and DPS will allow you to apply more pressure to the ennemy team while also providing heals. Abusing that lingering effect on heals will gives you the window you need to do some dps.
On another note, sometimes using an healing orb gives you a good window to right click for DPS. I tend to prefer using Purple orbs as poke pre fight but switch to yellow when fight starts.

You need a mindset shift. Most of the time healbots will heal until their team is full then do damage. You need to do damage until your team needs healing, that’s the correct mindset. It sounds counterintuitive but when you DONT do damage, your team takes more damage.
You always need to be at an angle for many reasons, never right behind anyone. For one, its safer for you as you don’t take accidental poke damage. For two, it diverts attention which again will make your team need less healing. And for 3, it prevents the ENEMY team from getting more map control and taking angles on you
This doesn’t mean hard flank. Moiras dp/s isn’t good enough to play like kiriko. But those short off angles to bait cooldowns, take attention off your team and do chip damage before you come back to heal will help you a lot. You can’t be scared.
Its better to be bad at playing the game correctly, than to be good at playing the game incorrectly with nowhere to grow.
