Employee question tips for kitchen (USA)
i can cook fine and i’m getting better at the table. however during a rush and when i see all those sandwiches i just freeze, the bun toaster is SO DAMN SLOW and i can’t get these sandwiches out on time because sometimes it’s just me and one other person in the kitchen so i have to tell my assembler to drop stuff and i keep falling behind. what can i do to prevent this? i need to get faster in the kitchen, it’s crucial because im going to become a manager and im still pretty new to kitchen, they always put me in service till now. i actually like the kitchen more but thats unrelated

Just remember the buns for what burger and just slam them down. While that goes prepare your boxes or paper. Then just serve it off. Rinse repeat. Eventually you will have a few burger boxes and buns ready to go at a time then you can either get em ready or pass em down to your colleague. Rinse repeat. If it’s busy the second person should be doing everything else while you stay dropping buns and preparing boxes.

You’re not supposed to but when we are busy I always keep up extra reg buns. Then I can make sandwiches that use those while I’m waiting for the quarter or Mac buns to come out. I also prioritize drive thru orders over counter. Or small orders. If I get an order with 6 mcchicken and then an order with 1 cheeseburger, I bang out the cheeseburger first. They can park the large orders and keep the line moving more efficiently that way.

There is nothing you can do to overcome understaffing and the sooner you realize that the sooner you'll stop causing yourself unnecessary stress.
