Cage update!

After careful consideration for our space and for our birds (Max, B&G, 33 and Lola, sun conure, 9), we decided that the best option for us was the double wide A&E cage from wayfair.

The shipping and delivery process was painless and while I have a few grips about dings and bent metal here and there, overall the condition was good and sturdy aside from the door locks, which I will look at alternative solutions for. If anyone else decides to get this cage I'd recommend a 2 person crew for ease and care but did put it together by myself + one helpful sun conure who had noise complaints about the loudness of the drill (with minor problems, which mostly included putting the top divider in backwards and needing to take half of it apart to fix my error).

It's past Lola's and Max's bedtime so the window is closed but I just couldn't wait to get a picture of the completed process.

I have some toys and perches in the cage but will need another person to assist with the rest and will plan to move max in tomorrow or the next day. For now, Max is still in his old cage in the other room and Lola thinks this is a perfect amount of space for her and I don't blame her! 🤪

PS: Those are human grade absorbent pads, not puppy pads and the fan will be coming down to be replaced with a light fixture.

Also if someone has alternative ideas for keeping him from accessing the floor as a stopgap? We will be replacing the carpet with tile to give him unfettered floor access while he's out but right now he's interested in ripping up the carpet and the only thing stopping him is his seed skirt on the old cage.

Not cage related, but do they hang out at the same time out of their cages? I have a B&G and a GCC and we haven’t let them out at the same time yet.

No! We are concerned with the size difference even though the sun is flighted and the B&G does not fly. There's been the occasional pass by when both of them are out and moving to different closed rooms but we are careful to not spend time with both of them out in the same space.

Both of them have been single birds up till now and so far they are neutral to one another when one is in cage and the other is out but the B&G is cage aggressive and does NOT like when the sun lands on his cage. We haven't had any incidents but are careful not to put them in situations where they'll have that negative or unsafe experience!

I'm curious! Are your birds housed in the same room in separate cages or in different rooms?

Edit: spelling and context

They are in the same room in separate cages. And we are the same, I’m too worried that Spin (B&G) might accidentally hurt (or worse) Paco (GCC). Spin is out the majority of the day, and Paco comes out 2/3 times per day when Spin takes breaks. Paco has learned not to land on Spins cage because we carry on anytime he goes near it 😅

Yeah, we JUST moved Max (B&G) into Lola's (Sun) room when we got Max's new cage in, so they've only been in the same space for a day. They are acclimating slowly as expected but I feel it would take years (if ever) for me to be comfortable having them both out in the same room supervised (preferably in a much larger room than this like the living room).
