Varenna or Como?

I am torn on where to stay. I would like to be near the train so I can do day trips to Milan and other areas. I know both areas are well connected by train. I have more hotel options in Como but it’s also far away from the middle of the lake, which is where I’d like to be for the lake views. I am staying 3 nights already in Bellagio. Should I keep my existing hotel in Como or switch to a B&B in Varenna? Any recommended places to stay in Varenna? I’d like to keep it around 300 Euros/night.

Thanks! Which hotel did you decide on? I’m looking into the July and there’s not many options.

We booked Hotel Royal Victoria. I will say we got very lucky because we were able to grab the room we wanted but it was the last one available for our respective dates.

That looks superb but I’m hoping to find a place under $500 euros a night.

I just stayed 4 nights in Varenna in mid May and stayed at Albergo Milano. We had the mezzanine apartment in their Casa Rossa building with a private terrace right on the lake. It was absolutely stunning and price per night ranged between 280-320 euro a night.
